A Party at the Zoo!

Hi, Everyone!

Last night Grandma and Grandpa took me to a birthday party at the Seneca Park Zoo. Tom-san is celebrating his seventieth birthday! He is a member of Grandma and Grandpa’s church and he sings in the choir. So I knew lots of people at the party. The zoo is a fun place for a party!s soon as I got there, I met Monkey-san, who came to the party with some of my travel buddies. We made friends right away and hung out together most of the evening. We remembered to be polite and wished Tom-san a happy birthday right away! And we thanked him for inviting us to his party.

After we had dinner, Grandma and Grandpa took Monkey-san and me on a walk to explore the zoo. First we went to the playground and sat on the slide. It had been raining, so we didn’t want to slide down into the puddle at the bottom! Then we met the meerkats and posed for a silly picture at the meerkat sign. The white rhinos came out to play just as we were going past. We stopped in the Sensory Garden to make friends with a turtle marimba. The turtle doesn’t mind at all if you hit its back with the mallet. It makes a pretty sound! Then we walked over to the polar bear exhibit and saw the polar bear swimming.

There was a Dixieland band playing for the party, and after dinner, they led a parade. We marched from where we had dinner to the sea lion pool. Even the wolves woke up and paid attention when the band came past their enclosure! Then we saw the sea lions showing off. I guess there are some lions that like the water! The announcer said they eat 20,000 pounds of fish every year. That’s a lot of fish!

After the sea lion show, we all went to the room where you can watch the sea lions and polar bear underwater for our party dessert. There were strawberries and cookies and frozen treats with chocolate. Yum! And everybody got a box of animal crackers to take home, too! Tom-san’s family and friends had lots of nice things to say about him, and everybody had a good time. The band played some more, so people could dance. Monkey-san decided to go dancing, but I made friends with a polar bear statue, instead.

A zoo is a wonderful place for a little lion and a little monkey to go to a party!

Love,
Lion-san
