Rainy Day Report

Hi, everyone!

It’s raining today, but we’ve been having lots of nice summer days. Grandma and Grandpa have been taking walks all the way to the end of the street.

Grandpa doesn’t even need a cane anymore! He was able to go to the bay for his birthday. We watched sunset from the car.

Saturday morning, Grandma took me along on her first kayak paddle of the year. We went to Clark Creek. The water level in the bay is high enough that we could cross the breach in the beaver dam and paddle upstream from there. We turned around when we got to a fallen tree. On the way back, we stopped to see the swan family’s nest.

Back in Fairport, the new siding on the south side of the house is finished, except for the attic vent. We had a visitor in the back yard one morning!

Last Thursday, we had strong winds in Fairport all day! There were small branches and oak and maple leaf clusters all over the back yard! A big branch fell off the sugar maple and landed on the roof! It was still windy when we went to the bay on Friday. Grandma and Grandpa took me to the Point to watch sunset again, but the wind was blowing sand around! We mostly watched from the car again.

Uncle Steven’s family stayed overnight. Nobody was very interested in being outside! Uncle Steven did get the power boat into the water and running.

Sunday was a good weather day! Grandma had cleaned up most of the fallen leaves and branches on Friday and put them in cans for the town to pick up. On Sunday, I helped her prune back the holly and dogwood, so the handymen could start restaining the siding on the house. Then she got the big branch off the roof! Grandpa bought her a little battery-operated chain saw, and she cut the branch up for the town to take.

The apples on our trees are getting bigger! Grandma says the trees have never set as many fruit before as they did this year. Last year, some animal took all the apples one night, just before they were ripe enough for us to eat. Do you suppose we’ll get any left for us this year?

Love,

Lion-san
