Hi, everyone!
As soon as the Lilac Festival was over, Grandma took me and my pride back to Highland Park. She thought the lilacs would still be in bloom, and she was right!
There were still a lot of signs about the festival, but we didn’t need them to know where to look for lilacs! All the vendors south of Highland Avenue were taking down their tents. The Rochester city sign was still up on the north side of Highland Avenue. That was as close as we got to the festival business. We were there for the flowers, instead!

Almost all the magnolia trees were past bloom, but we did see one last blossom! The buckeyes and peonies were starting to bloom along the path to Reservoir Avenue.

We took a walk among the lilacs on the hillside. Katie’s lion got a little tired! We saw a groundhog peeking out of its burrow.

The yellow pansies in the pansy bed had bloomed enough that we could see the star design. Then we walked up the lilac gully to the azalea and rhododendron glen. The earliest bushes were blooming there!

After our ride home, we looked at our own lilacs. They were still pretty, too!

Last Friday, Grandpa got a new hip joint! He was able to take his first steps on it right away! Because he is recovering, we didn’t get out to the bay over Memorial Day weekend. Uncle Steven took pictures of the azaleas in bloom out there, so Grandma could see them.

We had a lot of rain last Saturday, but by Tuesday the weather was sunny and summery. Grandma took us back to Highland Park to see the rest of the rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom. Nobody else was at the playground, so we all got to swing! A big limb broke off during the rain storm, but it didn’t hurt anybody.

More of the peonies were blooming! Katie’s lion and James’ lion each had a favorite flower color. There were still some very late lilacs blooming, too!

The azalea glen wasn’t in full bloom, but there were lots of pretty rhododendron blossoms for us to enjoy. Katie’s lion got tired again, but we all managed the steps through the blooming azaleas!

At home, our clump dogwood is blooming! We’re getting near the end of the blooming tree and shrub season, but we’ve certainly enjoyed our adventures to see them!

Love,
Lion-san
So glad you got to see so many flowers with you other Lion buddies!
Grandma Sue
Please let grandpa know that we wish him a speedy recovery. Having had hip and knee replacements, we can somewhat identify what he’s going through. Get well soon soon, Bob!
Lots of lovely flowers. This is a pretty time of year. Please give our best wishes to Bob. Hope healing and PT go well. Betsy
