Leaves, Mostly!

Hi, everyone!

It’s a rainy, chilly day, today! Grandpa’s rain gauge says we’ve had over an inch of rain today. That’s the most we’ve had in one day since Grandpa got the rain gauge this summer!

It has been very dry here this fall, so we were happy to have a steady rain.

This time of year, all the leaves on our trees turn colors and fall off. Then it’s time to rake them up! The trees take turns losing their leaves. This year, the red maple at the bay was the first, almost two weeks ago. The other maples were just turning colors then.

Last week, we had more leaves down at the bay. The grass was completely covered! I made some mushroom friends that popped up through the leaves. I helped Grandma and Grandpa rake up all the leaves, but there will still be more to drop!

In Fairport, the yellow sugar maple was the first tree to drop most of its leaves. My pride got out to see the first leaf pile by the road. Then we had our first frost, and the leaves came down like rain! The town hasn’t come for our pile yet, so it has gotten even bigger!

My pride helped Grandma pack up the blankets she’s been making for the babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. After she dropped off the box at the Medical Center, she had a lot of leftover yarn from those blankets. She made a striped blanket from the leftovers. Now there’s nothing left that is longer enough to make a blanket row! Grandma’s friend who takes the blankets to the NICU says the nurses enjoy matching blankets to each baby’s personality. I wonder who will get the striped one in the next batch to go?

Tomorrow is Halloween. It’s supposed to be cold and rainy again, but my pride wanted to be ready to greet any trick or treaters. Do you like our ghost costumes?

Love,

Lion-san
