Gradually Green!

Hi, everyone!

Some years where Grandma and Grandpa live there’s a single warm sunny spring day when all the leaves seem to pop out at once.  That hasn’t happened here this year!  It’s been colder than normal with a lot of chilly rain.  So the leaves are opening slowly and the flowers look discouraged!

When our new next door neighbor moved in last year, he told Grandma that he wanted to replace the fence between his house and ours.  Now that winter is over, he got that project done!  First, he had to replace some of the existing fence posts, because they had rotted out at the base.  I helped make sure they were set straight into the concrete at the bottom of the fence post holes!  Then, the next day, he and a friend replaced all the existing fence sections with brand new ones!

The fence looks so nice without all the ivy on it that Grandma decided to clean out the ivy that was overgrowing the azaleas on our side of the fence.  I was a good helper!  Then Grandma spread cedar mulch where all the ivy had been.  It looks and smells very nice!

We’ve been seeing lots of squirrels and chipmunks in the back yard this spring.  Grandma thinks it’s because more of our neighbors have fences and dogs now, instead of roaming cats.  This week, I’ve seen two new animals in our back yard.  There’s a baby rabbit around who just learned how to hop up on the deck!  But there’s also a red fox cutting across the deck just about every day.  I hope they’re all willing to be part of a Peaceable Kingdom!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. Nancy-san said she sees forget me nots with the daffodil. The new fencing looks nice so does the space where you helped clean the ivy. I’m not sure that the red fox will live peacably with the other animals.
