Back and Forth!

Hi, everyone!

We’ve been having nice summer weather, so Grandma and Grandpa have been taking me back and forth between Fairport and the bay. In Fairport, I’ve been having wildlife encounters!  Last week, a deer walked across the back yard.  The same day, I started seeing a baby groundhog on our back deck.  I think the groundhog and I are friends now!

When we were out at the bay a week ago, there was a very pretty sunrise!  I like how the colors change as the sun gets closer to actually appearing.

Grandma took me on my second kayak adventure of the season, and it was a long one!  We went all the way up to Crescent Beach — the sandbar that separates the lake from the bay — to see the open area.  It’s way bigger than last year!  The high water has washed out part of the foundation for the house on the west side, and the cottage on the east side doesn’t have any yard anymore!  Grandma says we have to start calling Charles Point Charles Island!  The east end of Crescent Beach is under water, too!

Back in Fairport, I spent time with my flower friends.  The double day lilies used to grow in another part of the yard.  Grandma and I moved them two years ago, and this is the first time they’ve bloomed in their new home.  The basket of impatiens Grandma got as a thank you  from the town is very pretty, too!  In this hot weather, the flowers need a quart of water every other day!

This past Saturday was the church choir picnic.  Grandma and Grandpa took me out to the bay on Friday to get ready.  Joe-san and Nancy-san came to help and brought Moose-san and Tilly.  Friday night, we all went to the Point to watch sunset.  It was windy and wavy on the lake, so we watched the sun go down from the car!

On Saturday, we were excited to see all our choir friends!  We made sure everybody knew to put their empty cans and bottles in the recycling spot.  The weather was nice and the food was yummy!

Sunday it was windy again, with white caps on the bay.  Grandma and Nancy-san decided to start a jigsaw puzzle instead of doing anything outside.  Of course, Moose-san and Tilly and I helped!  By sunset time, the lake was a little calmer and I could watch moonrise and sunset from the lighthouse pier.

Yesterday morning was better kayaking weather.  Grandma did some water chestnut weeding south of Grass Point.  She had to bring all the weeds back to our place because all the usual places she could leave them to dry out are under water!  I can’t help with weeding but I did help with Grandma’s other project.  We’re scraping all the moss off the sidewalk bricks.  Everyone says the sidewalk looks much better now!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. That looks like one of Grandma’s kitchen spatulas that you were using to get the moss off the bricks. Did she give you permission to use it for the moss? I hope she has another one for flipping burgers!

  2. Making friends with a groundhog is not a bad thing. The Crescent Beach is better off as an island. It was a nice sunset Friday night and the choir picnic was fun. It was nice to start a puzzle and I’m glad Grandma got lots of weeds.
