Hi, everyone!
The leaves are really falling now! After Grandma and Grandpa made the first big leaf piles in Fairport, I took EUS and Kitty-san out to play in the leaves. Some of the maple leaves are the same colors we are, so we had to be careful not to get lost!
Grandma has been working on improving the recipes for the Election Day bake sale. EUS and Kitty-san and I helped her make three versions of cinnamon raisin bread to see whether the cinnamon spirals would stick together better when the bread was cut. They all looked good, but the new versions made nicer slices.
I had to explain Halloween to Kitty-san and EUS. We helped Grandma pass out treats, then I got to watch James on Facetime as he helped Uncle Steven and Aunt Kara hand out treats. James dressed up as a panda! On the Saturday after Halloween, Grandma went to the Farmer’s Market, and look what she brought home! EUS and Kitty-san had never seen Brussels sprouts on the stalk, and neither had I!
Grandma’s stack of baking supplies for the Election Day bake sale was really getting big! Joe-san and Nancy-san came over later Saturday in Nancy-san’s truck to load up all the supplies. Moose-san came too, and we all helped put the big pots and raisins in the truck.
On Monday November 4, Grandma took us all to church to start the baking. Grandma Sue-san showed us all how the dough gets made. Later, Taylor and Katie came to help make cinnamon rolls. Joe-san was doing such a good job of minding the oven that there weren’t any ruined baked goods. Grandma had to pick a very nice Swedish tea ring and some cinnamon rolls for the baking crew to eat as “burnt offerings”. Grandma Sue and Kayla and Mina thought they were yummy! The chocolate bread makers did, too! In the evening, the baggers came to get the rolls and bread packaged. Then Grandma took us all upstairs to see everything we helped make. The tables were full!
We all had to get up very early to go back to church on Election Day. Moose-san and I introduced our scone-making buddy Ann-san to EUS and Kitty-san. At lunch time, Grandma took us all upstairs again to help her decide whether we had enough of all the baked goods for the entire sale. We did, so everybody stopped making dough and finished shaping what we already had. The very last thing out of the ovens was a pan of orange rolls! Some of the baking crew were already cleaning up the kitchen by the time the last orange rolls came out, and we stayed to help with that. Look at all the pans and equipment Grandma needed to take home in her car! Kitty-san and EUS didn’t think it would all fit!
It did, though, and there was even room for us! After we got home, we helped Grandma stack the pans to make sure they were really dry before they got put away for the year.
Grandma went to Boston on business the very next day after the bake sale, but EUS and Kitty-san and I stayed home with Grandpa. While Grandma was gone, Grandpa fixed Grandma’s very favorite rolling pin. It’s the one she bought for Uncle Bill to make apple pies his last Thanksgiving. The bearings had worn out, and Grandpa fixed it with some bearings from Grandma’s father’s hardware collection. Grandma says the rolling pin is even more special now!
Love,
Lion-san

Thank You and Kitty-san and Eus for being such helpers, stacking the baking supplies, loading the truck and helping to bake all those goodies. Moose-san had a good time too but he said he could have used more burnt offerings!
