Baking … and James!

Hi, everyone!

I had another busy week! First, I helped out with the Election Day bake sale at Grandma and Grandpa’s church. On the Saturday before the election, my buddies Joe-san and Nancy-san came over to help load up the flour, sugar and baking equipment. I helped Joe-san get it all in Nancy-san’s truck.

Once we got everything unloaded at church on Sunday, I helped Nancy-san stack the bags of flour in the kitchen. We made a big stack, but there was more that wouldn’t fit in the kitchen! Then I made sure that all the sales receipts were turned in, so everybody would get paid for the flour they bought. I found a place for the extra flour just outside the kitchen, and that’s where the great big bag of cinnamon went, too! After we put everything where it belonged, Moose-san and I got ready to bake.

The day before the election, Grandma and Moose-san and I baked all day! I helped make the first batches of sweet dough, then I helped my friend Ron-san make chocolate bread dough and Nancy-san make pumperknickel dough for the three grain bread. By then, the first loaves of cinnamon raisin bread were coming out of the oven. Moose-san and I made sure the bread was baked just right! Later, we helped Mina and Kayla assemble the scone kits. When we were done baking, Grandma and Moose-san and I looked at all the bread and rolls that were ready to sell.

On Election Day, we kept baking! Katie came to help us make cinnamon rolls when everybody else was starting to get tired. There was a lot of bread left to bake! Moose-san and I helped Joe-san at the oven, then I took a nap. I wanted to be rested enough to help pack up the extra ingredients to take back to Grandma’s! There was no cinnamon left in the big bag at all! After I got a good night’s sleep, I helped Grandma dry and air out the cinnamon roll pans before she put them away for next year.

But that wasn’t all we did last week! On Friday, Grandma and Grandpa took me to Arlington to visit baby James for the weekend! When we got there, James showed Grandpa how strong his legs are now. Then James gave me a great big hug! James really likes his bouncer, and he is good at bouncing!

James has learned how to roll back and forth to get at his toys, but he still falls asleep in his stroller when he goes for a walk.

The weather was really nice on Veterans’ Day, so we went to Lady Bird Johnson park to take a walk. James stayed awake for this walk! I liked the Lyndon Baines Johnson memorial grove, because I got to climb on a big rock there. I saw some mixed up azaleas that were in bloom now, instead of in spring! James and I had a good time at the park.

Now we’re back in Fairport after our visit to James. I think I can use some quiet time for a while!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. You looked a little tired at the bake sale but we sure made lot! Joe-san said he hopes you didn’t get your paws too stickey! We are glad you weren’t too tired too see James! That looked like a great rock to climb.
