Hi, Everyone!
Yesterday was a pretty typical summer day at Sodus!
First, Grandma got me up to see the sunrise. That was really early, but watching the sun reflecting off the clouds before it actually rose was worth it! And I got to go back to bed for a while afterward.
After breakfast, I wanted to go on a kayak paddle. Grandma said the wind was a good direction and speed to go for a paddle all the way to Sodus Point, and that’s what we did!We were right out in the middle of the bay, until we got close to the big houses on Sodus Point. Then we paddled around the cove between the two arms of the Point. I wanted to make friends with some swans, but the daddy swan didn’t want me to get near the mommy swan and the baby swan. He ruffled up his feathers to tell me to stay away, so I did! Then we paddled up to the Coast Guard station, so I could see the Coast Guard boats.
On the way back, Grandma and I stopped to see whether there were any water chestnuts growing in the waterlily patch near Grandma and Grandpa’s cottage. Water chestnuts are weeds that will spread out and cover the entire surface of the water! We spotted some, and Grandma said she’d go back later to pull them out. There’s no room for weeds in the kayak when I’m taking a ride. Then we picked up some cans that were floating in the water and brought those back. Even little lions know you shouldn’t throw cans and bottles in the water! I was a good helper and put Grandma’s kayak paddle in the sun to dry after we rinsed it off.
After lunch, Grandpa and Grandma and I took a ride to see if we could find any local sweet corn to have for dinner. We saw the sign for a new produce stand really close to the cottage and stopped to take a look. They had good looking fresh corn and zucchini! After we got back from that trip, I helped Grandma shuck the corn. Then I helped feed the azaleas. They need to get watered with a special fertilizer once a month — that’s what helps them make such pretty flowers in the spring!
After all that, Grandma and I worked on a jigsaw puzzle together. Then Grandma invented a new way to cook zucchini, using the pesto we made a couple of weeks ago. Grandma and Grandpa invited friends for dinner and served the zucchini, the fresh corn I shucked and salmon with the Wild Ginger sauce I made the same day as the pesto. I was tired from my busy day and went to bed early!
Love,
Lion-san
