The January weather has gone back and forth between well below freezing to enough above freezing to melt everything!  Right after New Years, we had enough cold weather so that Sodus Bay froze over.  Grandma wasn’t sure how thick the ice was, so we just looked at the frozen bay from the dock. I had a lot of adventures around Christmas and New Years! Two days before Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa and I hosted our annual stollen party. Now that we’ve started having snow and very cold weather, it’s harder to get out to Sodus to stay.  We did get out for one overnight right after I wrote last time.  I helped Grandma and Grandpa roll out the deer fencing to protect the rhododendron flower buds.  Continue reading “December Report!”

The day before Karin-chan’s shichi-go-san ceremony, Grandma and Grandpa and Joe-san and Nancy-san took Moose-san and me for a walk around Shinjuku.  We went to the Municipal Government Building, where there’s an observatory in each of the towers of Building One.  It’s not as high up as Skytree, but it’s free to visit!  Continue reading “Three Rituals and a Return”

Hi, everyone!

Tuesday, after the earthquake, we met Uncle David and Aunt Emi in the lobby of our hotel.  It is on the 20th floor of the building and has big windows to see around the city! Joe-san wanted to go to Kappabashi-dori to look for cooking equipment, so that’s where we went first.  We had to take a train and two subway lines to get there!  Continue reading “More Japan Adventures!”

Hi, everyone!

Moose-san and I are on a big adventure with Grandma and Grandpa and Joe-san and Nancy-san.  We are in Japan visiting Uncle David’s family!  The flight from O’Hare to Narita was thirteen hours long, and then we took a bus to Tama Center.  The rush hour traffic was heavy in Tokyo, so that bus ride was another three and a half hours.  We were really tired when Uncle David’s family met us at the bus stop!  Our hotel was right across the street from the bus stop and Bill-kun and Karin-chan helped us check in. I’ve been busy helping Grandma with the Election Day Bake Sale at her church! We’ve been collecting baking supplies for almost a month! Grandma has a spreadsheet to figure out what amounts of ingredients to buy. In a presidential election year, those are especially large amounts!  Continue reading “Baking!”

Hi, everyone!

Now the leaves are really starting to fall!  I’ve been helping Grandma with her “to do” list of autumn tasks.  The next thing on the list was getting all the carpets cleaned in Fairport!  I helped Grandma and Grandpa move all the small furniture off the carpets in the living room, dining room, family room and master bedroom.  We had a lot of chairs, lamps and end tables stored in all the other rooms!  Continue reading “Pumpkins and Pies!”

Even though most of the leaves haven’t started turning color yet, there are definitely signs of fall now!  The sun is setting so far south that it sets over land, even if we go to the lighthouse to watch.  In the morning, the sunrise is really far south, too! We’re finally starting to have some cooler weather!  That gave Grandpa the chance to finish cleaning up the leftover lumber from redoing the back deck in Fairport.  Most of the lumber had to be thrown away because it had rotten spots or other damage. Continue reading “Entering Fall!”
