Hawaii Memories

Hi, Everyone!
We spent a lot of time last week getting ready for the travel dinner! I helped Grandpa make banana ice cream in the new ice cream maker. Then I helped Grandma make the monkey bread to go with the ice cream. After that, I helped Grandma make a BIG batch of okonomiyaki sauce. We put it in squeeze bottles so we could have some at every table for the travel dinner.

Joe-san and Nancy-san brought Moose-san to help with the cooking, too! We helped cook the Brussels sprouts, then we unwrapped the centerpiece for the big table that some of the guests had sent. The flowers reminded Moose-san and me of Hawaii! We welcomed the guests with the arrow Bill-kun and Karin-chan brought us from Japan. Moose-san and I saw a lot of our friends at the travel dinner. Everybody liked the monkey bread and banana ice cream!

This week we had some very warm days that made me think Spring was here! I guess the crocus thought the same thing, because my first crocus friends bloomed. I still can’t figure out how my yellow crocus friend ended up in the grass, instead of the flower bed! Grandma says she thinks a chipmunk or squirrel dug it up and reburied it there.

When I went to E Kanakapila Kakou with Aunt Kara and Uncle Steven, I took a hula lesson but I had trouble keeping up. Papa Dick-san told me I should learn to tell an entire story with my paws. So I practiced and practiced, and now I can tell the story of our trip to Hawaii! In the first part, I’m welcoming everybody to my dance.

Then I dance about the waves. They were really big, and they went back and forth against the shore.

Next, my dance talks about the food we ate. It was yummy! After we ate, I enjoyed lying in the sun on the beach.

This part of my dance is about Bill-kun and Karin-chan coming. I gave them big hugs and when they had to go home, I made sure to wave goodbye!

Every hula tells a story, and this is the end of my tail. I hope you liked it!

Love,
Lion-san
