Hi, everyone!
Even though the weather has been really nice and warm, I can see signs that fall is coming! The Golden Delicious apples on our tree in Fairport are starting to turn a little bit yellow and the helium balloon that Karin had during her summer visit is running out of lift. Grandma got me up to watch sunrise last Saturday, and it wasn’t nearly as early as it was in June and July! When the sun comes up, it’s farther and farther to the south every day.
Moose-san is back from Maine, but he sent me a postcard before he ended the summer season there. He says this is a picture of his big brother! I’ve been busy with Grandma! We made a flourless chocolate cake for Grandma Ginny and we washed most of the windows, inside and out!
When the tree people came to cut the big fallen oak limb out of the power lines, Grandpa was impressed with the long-handled pruning saw they used. So he got one and used it to take down some other branches that were hanging over the house. I was a good helper cutting the branches down to size for the town to haul away. We made four big piles by the road!
Grandma took me on an adventure to the pumpkin patch and stopped to return bottles for deposits on the way. The return machines were an adventure for me! I helped put the plastic bottles in the machine, one by one. Then the machine rolls the bottle around and round until it can scan the bar code. Sometimes, the machine spits bottles back out and you have to turn them around before the machine will take them!
Powers Farm Market is just down the road from the grocery store where we return bottles. They have lots of pumpkins out, already, even though Halloween isn’t till the end of next month! I like to see the different sizes and shapes of pumpkins!
There are animals at the farm market, too, and I made friends with some of them. Grandma tells me to be careful, because I might look like food to the ones that munch straw!
There are hayrides around the pumpkin patch, and I tried getting up the steps to get on the hay wagon. But I decided I’d rather have a ride with the pumpkins than with the hay bales! The farm market teepee has its fall coating of corn stalks. I didn’t know whether there were scary things inside, so I just sat by the entrance! Then I practiced my numbers with the prices on the sample pumpkins.
Last night, Grandma had choir rehearsal at our house. She didn’t want the choir to disturb Yom Kippur services for the Jewish congregation that shares our church. I was a good helper again, making sure all the chairs were set up for the singers. Every single seat was full during rehearsal, so I listened from the kitchen. It’s fun to have a private choir concert in the living room!
Love,
Lion-san
The pumpkins are just your color! They went very well with your vest. The Night Knitters enjoyed knitting with you. My big brother would like to meet you some day. He spends a lot of time posing for pictures for tourists. It was nice of you to help with tree trimming and window washing.
