James and Thomas!

Hi, everyone!
Guess who was in town when we got back from our cruise? James and Thomas! They are here from the Netherlands with their mommy because their Grandma Ginny is sick. The Tuesday after we got home, there was a snow party at church. Grandma and I took James to go sledding down the hill at church and build a snowman. We are having the coldest ever February here, and there’s more than two feet of snow on the ground! That made it hard for Grandma and James to get over the snow piles to ride on the sled. The snow was also too cold to pack for a snowman, so we went inside to play. James and Grandma were all bundled up with boots and mittens and snow pants, and I had my winter scarf on, too! It took quite a while to get undressed to play inside! The playroom was nice and sunny, and there was a big wooden railroad set there! James and I had a good time making a track and a very long train! Then James gave me a ride in the dump truck and dumped me out!

On Thursday that week, James and Thomas and their mommy came over to have dinner with us. Grandma got out the play circus set and some blocks for James and Thomas to play with. James knows just how to set up the circus ring and trapeze, but he was being silly with the trapeze! Thomas is really getting good at crawling and sitting by himself!

Yesterday, Grandma and Grandpa and I took James to the Strong Museum for the morning. There are so many fun things to do there that we can’t do them all in one visit! This visit, James spent a lot of time playing with the Matchbox cars and race track in the first play gallery. Then we went upstairs where the Litebrite pegs and video games and table games are. Grandpa helped James and me play with a marble run that has to be tilted in three dimensions to guide the marble. That’s hard for little boys and little lions! We went back downstairs to the first play gallery and James played with the Matchbox cars some more. Then Grandpa showed James how to hoist the balls into the overhead run and get the ones that don’t come back on their own. James figured out how to hoist the balls so he could watch each one run on its overhead track before the next ball got started. He even showed some older children how to do it! Then he and Grandpa shared driving in the drag racer, because James’ legs are too short to reach the gas pedal. After that, we went to the fairy tale gallery. James climbed up the beanstalk and walked over the troll’s bridge. The troll was really very friendly! We went to the state trivia gallery and played the shuffleboard game, but it wasn’t like shuffleboard on the deck of MS Marina! James found some trucks to play with, too, before we left, but he dumped rocks, not me!

Grandma Ginny is home from the hospital now, so we took dinner over to her house last night. Thomas had his dinner first, then he crawled around while the rest of us ate. I helped Grandma make a belated birthday cheesecake for James’ and Thomas’ mommy and watched her blow out the candle. Everybody thought the cheesecake was yummy! It was such a busy day that Grandpa and I were tired after dinner, but James wasn’t! He was still playing iPad games and bouncing up and down when it was time for bed!

Grandma is trying out recipes to get ready for our travel dinner. That’s just two weeks from now and will mark six weeks since I saw my shadow on Ground Hog Day. I wonder if we’ll still have two feet of snow on the ground then?
Love,
Lion-san
