Hi, everyone!
It’s been really cold here since New Years! Lots of days, we’ve also had strong winds, and that makes it feel even colder! There was one rainy afternoon with temperatures above freezing, and Grandma got the lights off the apple trees then. The rest of the time, I’ve been glad I have things to do inside! One evening, Karin-chan helped Kitty-san Skype me from Japan and we had a nice visit. I have a new baker friend who helped Grandma and me take all the ornaments off the Christmas tree and pack them away.
Last night it was time to pack the boxes of Ground Hog Day cookies! The Packer-sans couldn’t come over until Katie finished work, so I made sure everything was ready beforehand. I helped Grandma get the storage boxes of wrapped cookies out of the freezer and made sure the mailing boxes and supplies were set to go. When the Packer-sans came, we all got right to work dividing up the cookies to go into the mailing boxes. We got six boxes packed in less than an hour!
Now the mailing boxes go back into the freezer until it’s time to mail them for Ground Hog Day.
Today, Grandpa and I made ice cream! Even on a very cold day, it takes a special machine to freeze ice cream. The ice cream is ginger flavor, and I was a good helper. I watched the ice cream maker to see when the ice cream was frozen enough to add the crystallized ginger and the ginger cookie crumbs. Then I helped Grandma scrape the ice cream into the storage container. Sometimes, cold is yummy!
Love,
Lion-san
PS Papa Packer-san made a time lapse video of us packing the cookies. Aren’t we a speedy bunch?
You did a lot of helping! first with the Ground Hog Cookies, then ice cream. Even though you couldn’t taste the cookies to make sure they were still good, we certainly hope you got to lick the dashers after the ice cream was finished and ready for the freezer!
My that was fast! How did you manage to get the Packer-sans to do that? We are glad that you don’t crack the whip at the bake sale.
