Hi, everybody!
I’ve been busy showing Kitty-san around Grandma and Grandpa’s neighborhood. Grandma took us to my favorite pumpkin patch, at Powers Farm Market. There are pumpkins in lots of colors! Kitty-san and I got to sit in the hay wagon in between hayrides, then we visited the animals. We made friends with an alpaca and a deer and a peacock!
Then, guess what? Grandma brought home another little lion! EUS is a friend of Monster Rock. Joe-san says EUS is from a pride in Kenya and he came to visit because he heard about my adventures. So now I have two new friends to share my adventures with! The first thing we did was help Grandma make another apple pie with the apples off our own trees.
Grandma made the pie because Harlan-san was coming out to Sodus to help Grandpa take in the dock sections for the winter. Harlan-san brought along some friends to help out. The first part of taking out the docks is to bring the kayaks upstairs. Grandma and Charlotte-chan washed the kayaks, then I showed Kitty-san and EUS how we dry them off. After the kayaks and docks were put away, we helped Charlotte-chan make nachos for lunch. Then we served the apple pie! Everybody thought it was yummy!
I took Kitty-san and EUS down to the waterfront to see how we stack up the dock sections. There were lots of geese and swans swimming around in front of our boat house! Then we took a ride on the swing and jumped into the first leaf pile of the fall.
Today was pie making day at Grandma and Grandpa’s church. Kitty-san and EUS and I were all ready to help! First, we spent time with the apple peelers and cutters. There were lots of people peeling and cutting, and lots of ways to get the job done! Then we stopped to have a snack with Rev. Greg.
After our snack, we went into the kitchen. I showed Kitty-san and EUS how my friends Mike-san and Joe-san make the pie crust in big batches. Then we watched my friends Joan-san and Deb-san roll out the crust. That’s the job Grandma does, too! After that, we watched the apples being mixed to make filling. Gayle-san makes really big batches! Everybody worked and worked until the last pie was done — there were 150 of them!
After all the pies were made, Kitty-san and EUS and I helped the pie wrapping crew. We helped cut lengths of aluminum foil to wrap up the pies, then they were ready to go into the oven or the freezer. Then we helped serve the cinnamon sugar snack that Grandma made out of some of the leftover pie crust. It was yummy! The last thing I showed Kitty-san and EUS was how we keep track of all the pies and what freezers they go into until they’re sold.
The next adventure I’m going to share with Kitty-san and EUS is the Election Day bake sale. Grandma is already collecting baking ingredients for that! Here come the cinnamon rolls!
Love,
Lion-san
The pumpkins looked good! Alpacas have nice fur for spinning. It is sad when the docks come out and lots of work!
Pie making is fun as long as Nancy-san doesn’t make crust. We are looking forward to baking on Election Day too.
