Hi, everyone!
Grandma and Grandpa and I had Thanksgiving dinner with my best buddies Joe-san and Nancy-san and Moose-san. Nancy-san makes the stuffing for the turkey with bread from the bake sale! Moose-san and I were good helpers. We made sure the turkey was done and the plum pudding was steamed. When it was time for dessert, Moose-san and I served the plum pudding and the apple pie.
Everything was yummy! Thanksgiving helps me remember to be grateful for all the family and friends in my life, and for all my adventures.
Right after Thanksgiving, Grandma and Grandpa took me out to Sodus to stay overnight. Look what I saw when I got up in the morning! Our first snow! It didn’t stay around very long, though. The temperatures got warmer and all the snow melted by the very next day. We haven’t had any more snow yet, but Grandpa is ready! He built a snow gauge on the deck in Fairport, so we can tell how much snow is falling when the big snows start. Seeing that helped me remember how much snow we had when Bill-kun and Karin-chan were here.
Last Saturday, I helped Grandma and Grandpa and some of my other friends decorate Grandma and Grandpa’s church for Christmas. Grandma Sue-san and I decorated the Christmas tree with raffia. I like decorations that are the same color as me! Then I helped my friend Deb-san decorate the entrance hallway and I made sure the poinsettias on the flower shelf looked nice. Nancy-san and I helped Grandpa put the snowflakes in the tall windows behind the Christmas tree. The last part of decorating is to put the birds on the Christmas tree to help remember loved ones who have died. The Timothy bird and the Bill bird (for Uncle Bill) go right on top!
Grandma and I have started baking the Ground Hog Day cookies. That’s another way we remember Uncle Bill and people who are serving in the armed forces now. First, I helped Grandma buy the special ingredients we need to bake the cookies. I got to put the layers of chocolate chips and caramel on the caramel crunch bars. Yum! Grandma asks me to make sure the batches of cookies are baked just right. Next, I help cut the cookies into bars. Cutting through the nuts on the salted nut bars is hard work! After that, Grandma and I wrap every single cookie by itself in plastic wrap, so they stay fresh. Grandma stores the cookies in the freezer until it’s time to send them, and the freezer is getting very full!
Sunday was the special day for the lights on the apple trees in front to turn on. That’s another way Grandma and Grandpa remember Uncle Bill. It was raining on Sunday, so I’m glad Grandma and I got the lights put on the trees last month when the weather was nicer! Don’t they look pretty? Grandma says she smiles whenever she sees them.
Love,
Lion-san
We enjoyed having you all on Thanksgiving! It was fun and we are thankful for many things!
It must have been hard not to test the cookie bars to make sure they were good!!!!!!!!!
It’s so nice to see that some things are still the same.
I’m glad you still find meaning in the Christmas decorations connected with Bill.
I, for one, will never forget!
Peace, my friends, and love~
