Hi, everyone!
Yesterday James and I went to the National Zoo! Aunt Kara and Grandma and Grandpa went with us. The National Zoo is a very pretty place and the weather was just right for being outside. As soon as I got there, I made friends with a lion named FONZ, and then I introduced FONZ to James and Grandma. He was happy to meet them!
Right inside the entrance is a prairie dog village. The prairie dogs were enjoying the nice weather, too! It was hard for James to see them from his stroller, so I made sure to tell him all about the animals we were visiting.
We went to the zoo because James’ cousins were going to be there, too! We all got together at the panda exhibit, but there was a very long line to see the pandas. So we went to see the elephants, instead.
The elephants’ house is being rebuilt, but they have a nice back yard to be in. One of the elephants was playing with a block. When the elephant turns it just the right direction, food treats fall out. There were lots of people watching the elephant play with the block!
James got hungry while we were looking at the birds, so Aunt Kara found a shady bench and fed him. I was a good helper and served Aunt Kara a snack, so she didn’t get hungry, too! When James was done eating, he let us know he was ready to go see more of the zoo!
At the reptile house, the line wasn’t so long, but strollers weren’t allowed inside! So Grandpa and James walked around while the rest of us looked at the snakes and frogs and lizards and iguanas. Doesn’t this iguana look like a dragon? Afterwards, I made sure to tell James all about the reptiles we saw.
My new friend FONZ the lion gave us a coupon so we could get a panda toy for James. I went with Grandma to get it, and Panda and I made friends right away! When we got back, James was wearing his special zoo outfit, with a monkey on his bottom!
I took Panda with me to see the Big Cats area. That’s where all the lions live, so I felt right at home! The tiger was sleeping, but the lions were walking around and roaring! Grandma says it wouldn’t be polite if I roared that much! Panda and I told James all about the lions we saw, but we didn’t have to tell him about the roaring because he could hear it!
After the big cats, James said he was ready to go home. We said goodbye to the cousins and drove home. It was a long drive because of the afternoon traffic in downtown Washington, but James was very patient. He has really tired and hungry by the time we got home!
We all had dinner and James had a bath. Then James told Uncle Steven all about his trip to the zoo and introduced him to Panda. It was a very busy day for a little baby and a little lion, but we had a lot of fun!
Love,
Lion-san
We were glad you were able to show much of the zoo to James! And you got to see FONZ and some of your other lion cousins.
