A Very Busy Saturday

Hi, Everyone!
Yesterday was a very busy day! In the morning, I helped Grandpa work on the new floor for the Sodus kitchen. Grandpa filled the uneven places in the floor with layers of thin floor tiles. They remind me of a patchwork quilt! Grandpa showed me how he cuts the pieces of new floor to the right shapes. He let me try, but I had to be very careful. It’s hard to hold the knife in my paws!

The first piece at the edge of the floor needed the most shaping, and we got that piece put in place. After that, Grandma and Grandpa did some work outside. Grandpa put fertilizer on the grass and Grandma gave the azaleas their first feeding of the season. This week, the real dandelions were in bloom all over the place! I think I like them more than Grandpa does.

At lunchtime, we all came back to Fairport, because we were invited to a party! My friend Ron-san is celebrating his 70th birthday. Grandma and I made a cauliflower pizza to take to the party as an appetizer. First, we had to slice the cauliflower into thin pieces. I had to be very careful where I put my paws, because the mandolin slicer is very sharp! Then I helped mix the cheese, olives and seasonings with the cauliflower. After that, I helped Grandma stretch the pizza dough in the pans and put the filling on top. Doesn’t the baked pizza look yummy? Grandma and I cut the pizza into squares so it would be easy to eat.

When we got to the party, I made sure to wish Ron-san a happy birthday right away. Then I helped serve the pizza squares to all the guests. There were birthday decorations and balloons all over the place!

When it was time for dinner, we had barbeque pork and chicken. I spent time with Nancy-san, then I sat with Papa Dick-san and Grandma Sue-san. The barbeque was yummy! I made some new friends and I got a ride on a unicycle!

After dinner, I saw some of my friends from pie making last fall. Then the Dady Brothers played a birthday concert. I was excited when we got to sing “All God’s Children Got a Place in the Choir” because it talks about clapping paws, as well as hands. Papa Dick-san helped me keep time to the song. Grandma helped me do the motions for the Unicorn Song, but I couldn’t keep up! I guess I’ll have to practice, just like I did to learn hula. Then I helped Sarah-san take some photos of the guests. Doing all that made me a little tired, so I had some quiet time with Grandpa.

The party wasn’t over! After my rest, I helped get the birthday cake ready. Doesn’t it look pretty? It tasted yummy, too!

I had such a busy day that I was really tired by the end of the party. I spent some more quiet time with my best buddy Joe-san, and then with my new friend Carol-san. Grandma and Grandpa helped clean up after the party, but I was too tired to help! I was asleep before Grandma and Grandpa brought me home!

Thank you, Ron-san, for letting me come to your party. I had a really good time!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. It looks like you had a really fun time at the party! I bet you were glad that you didn’t work so hard helping Grandpa that the short rests during the party were enough to keep you going during!
    Love Nancy-san, Joe-san and moose-san
