Still Waiting!

Hi, everyone!

On Friday March 14, we had spring temperatures. The snow had melted off our road at the bay, so we could go out to stay overnight.

There was still ice on the bay! Some years, it’s been all gone in February, but this was a “real winter” year. I could see the ice was getting thin, and nobody was out fishing on it!

We had a pretty sunrise Saturday, and there were more holes in the ice. I could see the flower buds on the azalea getting fatter!

On Sunday afternoon, a cold front came through! We had really heavy rain and lots of wind in Fairport. Grandma was happy we didn’t lose power, because she was baking a corned beef dinner in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Uncle Steven’s family came to share it with us. It was yummy!

On Monday, the temperature barely got above freezing! It was a good day for indoor activities. I helped Grandma make chocolate biscotti for our friend Rita-san. First we creamed the margarine and sugar together, then we added the almonds, cocoa and flour. Grandma won’t let me get my paws in this dough, so she had to shape the logs for the first baking. After the slices had their second baking, I made sure that every one got a nice coating of chocolate glaze! Rita-san will be in town next month, and the biscotti are waiting for her in our freezer.

On Tuesday, it was warmer! Grandma took me out in the yard to see what was coming up! My crocus blossom friends opened up in the sunshine!

Another cold front came through with rain on Thursday, and Friday it was sunny but cold. Grandma let me sit in a sunbeam to warm up my tummy! When we went out to the bay, all the ice was gone! We had a very pretty sunrise on Saturday. By lunchtime, when we were back in Fairport, I saw great big flakes of snow!

Yesterday, I went back outside to see my flower friends again. This year, I helped Grandma put coffee grounds around the daylilies as well as the tulips. So far, nobody has eaten either of them! My daffodil friends are beginning to bloom, but they’re waiting for warmer weather to open fully.

My lilac and enkianthus friends have buds that are getting bigger! I hope we have lilac blossoms this year! The weather people on television said the rest of March will stay cold. This morning, we even had more snow! I guess I’ll have to wait a little longer for spring!

Love,

Lion-san
