Hi, everyone!
Even though I’m still spending lots of time at the bay with Grandma and Grandpa, we’re getting some projects done in town, too!
Grandma and Grandpa haven’t made a fire in the fireplace for a long time. They didn’t know if the chimney was still safe, so they got a chimney inspection and cleaning. The inspector had a camera that he could send all the way up to the top of the chimney. Now Grandpa knows what repairs need to be made! Then Grandpa got a new brush to clean the brick walk beside the garage. All the moss is gone!
The holly bushes in front of the house have been growing and spreading! Grandma usually waits to trim them until she can use the trimmings for holiday decorations. This year there were so many tall branches that she felt she had to trim out of season! I helped! We had to use the pole pruner to reach all the branches in the center! We took out two garbage cans full of holly trimmings and it’s hard to tell anything was cut!
At the bay, it’s rose mallow blossom time! Grandma took me on a kayak paddle to our favorite shoreline with lots of rose mallow plants! I like making friends with all the blossoms!
The first Saturday in August, we had the choir picnic at the bay! Joe-san and Uncle Steven’s family came out to help! James and Joe-san were in charge of taking orders for hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. They use coupons to keep track of how many orders there are. James made some new coupons! Uncle Steven made a batch of salsa!
We had some very light rain while we were waiting for everybody to come, but then it stopped for the rest of the party! I was happy to see some of my best church friends! Uncle Steven took James and Thomas and Veronica tubing twice! At dinnertime, there was a big crowd on the lawn enjoying all the yummy food people brought to share!
Sunday morning after the party, it was a little hard to get started! When it was tubing time, James and Thomas wanted to ride together. Grandma and I were the observers. The bay was windy and rough! The tube flipped over when James fell off! When Uncle Steven said it was time to stop, I think James and Thomas were happy to agree. We got fresh corn for dinner and I helped shuck it!
We were back in town for the leftovers from Hurricane Debbie! There wasn’t a lot of wind, but we had steady rain all day! When the weather cleared, I went out to make more flower friends! There was a second rosebud on Grandma’s Peace rose bush. Guess what? Nobody ate this one! Some of the impatiens in the front window box started having white blossoms. That’s a mystery, because Grandma hasn’t planted white impatiens in several years!
Last Sunday afternoon, we had alternating rain and sunshine at the bay! I was happy to stay inside, because it was cool, too!
There was another rainstorm coming at sunset, but we went to the Point to see the clouds. The sun actually set in between the two heaviest rainstorms!
Love,
Lion-san
So happy we got to enjoy the choir picnic with you, Lion-san! You made sure the rain didn’t spoil the party and we all had a wonderful time!
