Hi, everyone!
Grandma’s birthday balloons finally lost their lift! They all came down to my level since the last time I wrote!
When we got back from our cruise, Grandma noticed that something had been eating the impatiens in the window box! It wasn’t happening while I was sitting there, so Grandpa set up a camera to see what was happening after I went to bed. Guess what we saw! A fawn was having a snack at 3 in the morning! Grandma put out some more coffee grounds, and we haven’t had any more nibbled plants since.
We’ve had a lot of very hot weather, when being outside wasn’t a good idea. Last week, it was a little cooler. Grandma took me back to Highland Park, to see what was blooming! I’ve been there lots of times in the spring, but not after the azaleas and rhododendrons are done blooming. The tulip bed is replanted with summer-flowering plants, and so is the pansy bed!
In the Poets Garden, just about everything was green with no blossoms. The may apple leaves did have yellow spots! When I visited my lilac friends, I only saw leaves, and not all of them were lilac leaves! The groundhog in my favorite burrow had done some new digging!
I saw one VERY late magnolia blossom! There was one dogwood blossom left, too! The buckeye tree had buckeyes, not blossoms! The peony bushes had seed pods instead of flowers.
There were lots of bushes that I’d never seen blooming before! Grandma thought she knew what one of them was, but we had to ask a church friend to help us identify the others. She has a naturalist app on her phone! Two of my new friends had name tags. That helped!
The park didn’t have very many visitors when Grandma and I were there. I even had a chance to sit in the hollow tree! I made friends with some day lilies and told them about our double ones at the bay. Guess what? Somebody left a painted rock in the branches of a lilac bush! I liked the message!
We went out to the bay last Thursday. It’s just past the solstice, so the sun set as far north in the lake as it ever does. There were lots of waves at the Point! Just before the sun set, it reflected like fire from the windows of the cottages at the beach!
Saturday, Grandma and I got busy making party mix! The supply at the bay was getting low, so we made three more batches! Do you think that’s enough to last all summer?
Grandma has been crocheting blankets for a baby that’s going to be born in October. That baby has a big sister, and that big sister has a Jellycat dinosaur. Jellycat is my tribe, too, so I asked Grandma to make a blanket for Arlo. I hope Arlo likes the blanket I designed!
Love,
Lion-san
Lots of things blossoming now there and here. We have been seeing loads and loads of hydrangeas in blues and whites and loads of wild day lilies. I am wondering if you would be willing to send me your recipe for party mix. You sure made a huge batch. How many times the recipe did you make?
