Following the Flowers

Hi, everyone!

Since I wrote last time, we’ve had spring temperatures and rain showers, with some sunny days, too! All the leaves have come out on the trees, so they’re nice and green!

The big Apple Blossom Festival near the bay isn’t until next weekend, but the blossoms on my apple tree friends in town have come and gone! The azaleas in the back yard started to bloom, too! One day when it was nice enough to have the sliding doors open, a chipmunk climbed right up the screen! My Sensation lilac friend in the front yard was getting all of its new leaves eaten, so Grandma and Grandpa put up a fence to protect it!

On one of the sunny days, Grandma and I went back to Highland Park! We wanted to see all my lilac friends before the crowds arrived for the Lilac Festival! We parked right by some blooming azaleas! We took a church friend who had never been to Highland Park before, so we showed her the redbuds and the magnolias and the peonies, too!

Most of the lilacs were starting to bloom and a few were in full bloom. The whole park smelled like lilacs! I was happy to see two of my favorite Sensation lilac bushes!

On our way back to the car, we took our church friend up the rhododendron gully. Only a few of the rhododendrons and azaleas were blooming. After the Lilac Festival is over, Grandma and I will come back to see them and my buckeye friends in bloom!

Last Friday, we went out to the bay overnight. Temperatures near Lake Ontario in spring are usually cooler than farther inland because it takes the lake a while to warm up! My azalea friends at the bay were just starting to bloom.

It was cloudy and rainy on Friday evening, but the sun came out just before it set! We went to the Point to watch! Grandma got a photo of the rainbow before it faded completely. The clouds made a pretty sunset, but they kept us from seeing the solar storm aurora when it got dark!

Sunday was Mothers Day, so some flowers came to us! Uncle David’s family and Uncle Steven’s family both sent Grandma bouquets! The fence around my Sensation lilac friend is working! Look at all the new leaves it has grown since it stopped being a deer salad bar!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. Lovely photos. Spring is so delightful and so beautiful. We have not had any frost here so all blossoming trees including rhododendrons have been spectacular and long lasting.
