Hi, everyone!
We didn’t have much snow at all over the Christmas holidays! There were some snow flurries between Christmas and New Years, but most of the snow melted right away!
That made it easier for my News Years Eve friends to come celebrate at our house! We had a nice dinner, ate cookies, and toasted the New Years before my bedtime!
On New Years day, I helped Grandma take all the ornaments off the Christmas tree! Then Grandpa took off the lights, and I helped him wrap the tree up to take out. It took Grandma two days to pack up all the ornaments!
James went back to school right after New Years, but Thomas had the rest of the week off from his school. On Wednesday, Grandma and I took Thomas and Uncle Steven to the Strong Museum. Thomas went to Level Up until the high ropes course opened. He made an avatar, then practiced a lot of video game skills!
Most local schools were in session, so we were surprised how many people were on the ropes course! Thomas sometimes had to wait for oncoming traffic on the segments. He had a good time and got lots of zipline rides!
After lunch, we all went to the butterfly garden. Thomas and Uncle Steven had never been there before! I was happy they liked it! Thomas wanted to get a butterfly to land on his hand. Most of the butterflies weren’t interested, but he finally succeeded!
Grandma was happy to find a common blue morpho butterfly sitting still with its wings open! We also got to watch the staff release newly emerged butterflies !
We only had time for a brief stop in Storybook Adventureland before it was time to go home!
Grandma has already started baking Ground Hog Day cookies. She had so many baked that she needed to borrow space in Uncle Steven’s freezer to store them! When she took the cookie boxes over last Friday, Thomas told her that he had eaten his last goat cheese biscuit for lunch. We made another batch and Thomas came over with Aunt Kara to pick them up. On Saturday, we finally had some snow that stuck! That was the twelfth day of Christmas, so the last night for our apple tree lights to be on. I was glad we got a chance to see them in the snow!
Since Saturday was a snowy day, it was a good time to make more Ground Hog Day cookies! I helped frost the peanut butter bars, because marbling is my specialty! Then I helped Grandma wrap them. There was enough room in our freezer for this box!
When I woke up on Sunday, there was even more snow! After church, Grandma shoveled the driveway. The snow was just wet enough to make snow beasts, so that’s what we did next! I enjoyed watching my new friends from the front window!
Monday and Tuesday, the daytime temperature was 40 degrees! My snow beast friends all melted! By Wednesday, all the snow was gone from the ground and the apple trees. I helped Grandma take down the apple tree lights. It was getting colder and windy while we were working, so we brought all the lights inside before we wound them around their cards.
Today, we packed the Ground Hog Day cookie boxes! One of them is going to Okinawa, so Grandma wanted to mail it before the holiday next Monday. Grandma picked up the boxes from Uncle Steven’s freezer and got flat rate mailing boxes at the post office. I helped sort each kind of cookie into four piles, one for each box. The boxes were almost full when all the cookies were packed! One box went back to the post office and the other ones went back into our freezer. They’re all headed for destinations that will only take a day or two to reach.
It’s supposed to get cold enough for snow again next week. I hope we get some that stays around!
Love,
Lion-san
Lion-san, I think you will finally get your wish for some snow that will stick around for awhile. Maybe you and grandma will be able to make a ⛄️.
