Hi, everyone!
When we got back from our trip, the local strawberries were just beginning to ripen. I was happy the local crop waited for us to come back from Croatia! The Thursday after we got back, we had a very heavy rainstorm! When Grandma and Grandpa took me to the bay the next day, we found big ruts in our road from the rain! The water level on the deck was higher, too! And our lawn was fuzzy, because it’s cottonwood season!
We had to take the long way to go to Sodus Point for sunset, because the road is underwater at Third Creek. The waves were washing over part of the lighthouse pier, too! We had a very pretty sunset, and the sunrise on Saturday was pretty, too!
After the pretty sunrise, Uncle Steven’s family came out for the day. Grandpa figured out a way to hang Grandma’s kayak on the outside of the boathouse. Uncle Steven and Aunt Kara took the kayak down the stairs, then Grandpa mounted some brackets to hold it and a hoist to lift it into place. Grandma has to wade into the water on the deck to launch it!
When that job was done, we all relaxed! Aunt Kara worked on her oil painting and Thomas had a snack on the picnic table. James was working on a new Minecraft structure and wanted me to see what he was making! Then we all had quiet time before dinner.
This past weekend, we were all out at the bay again! Grandpa made waffles on the porch for Saturday breakfast. Grandma took Thomas on his first kayak ride of the season on Saturday before it got too windy. We ate dinner at Skipper’s on the deck Saturday night and went to BrainFreeze for ice cream afternwards. On Sunday the weather was still windy and too cold for eating outside. It was warm enough for a trip to Burnap’s Farm Market, though! We bought more local strawberries, then James and Thomas and I spent time on the playground!
Uncle Steven’s family went home after dinner on Sunday, but Grandma and Grandpa and I stayed overnight again. We went to Sodus Point for sunset again and it was very pretty!
This morning, Grandma took me on a kayak adventure! The water level is so high that Grandma thought we could paddle over the beaver dam on Clark Creek! I helped Grandma launch the kayak! It felt really funny, paddling backward off the deck!
When we got close to Clark Creek, we could see one of the weed harvesters working! It was backing up to work around some docks, so we made sure to stay out of the way!
When we got to the beaver dam, I couldn’t see any of it sticking out of the water! Last year, I couldn’t see over the top of it from the kayak when we paddled here! Grandma found a place to cross the dam without even bumping on anything! Being upstream of the dam was a new adventure! We saw two great blue herons, but they didn’t want to pose for pictures. We followed one all the way to the end of the creek in the wetlands before we turned around.
On the paddle back downstream, we stopped to see some waterlilies in bloom. Then we saw two swans preening. They were standing on a dock that was underwater!
We still have fuzzy lawn from the cottonwoods this week, but now we have blossom lawn, too! The neighbor’s catalpa tree is blooming and starting to drop its blossoms. I’m glad I get to see the blossoms on the ground, because the tree is very tall and the blossoms are right up at the top!
Love,
Lion-san
We are surprised that you already got to the Bay. It seems like you just got home. The first sunset you saw was really pretty! The water is really high. Goodness you could drown! We are glad that you were up at the house most of the time. We got a new stove today. We had to leave church because it was going to be delivered. It is all shiny and bright. Joe-san is reading up on it as we write, even though Nancy-san will bake with it tomorrow before Joe-san gets a chance. That water lily is really pretty. We are glad you showed us the catalpa blossoms, we have not noticed that tree.
A new stove! I know you will make lots of yummy things in it!
