Hi, everyone!
On the last day of winter, we had snow again, but it melted! It was warm enough in the afternoon that all the snow was gone by dinnertime.
In the evening, Uncle Steven came over with the Forester. He took James’ and Thomas’ car seats out so there was lots of room in back. That way, the very biggest GI Joe toy would fit to go home to Thomas! Grandpa and I helped Uncle Steven load it. It needed a lot of cleaning before anybody could play with it!
The next day, the first day of spring, Grandma and I were able to get started on yard work. Grandma wanted to rake the leaves off the places with daffodil bulbs before the daffodil sprouts got too big. I helped! Every place we raked, we could see that the daffodils were coming up. Grandma said we got that raking done just in time! Guess what? One of my misplaced crocus friends was already blooming!
We had sunny days right away in spring, even though some of them were cold! I enjoyed seeing my sunbeam friend again! On warmer days, I’ve been going outside to see what spring bulbs are coming up. One day, we had a Cooper’s hawk perched in the back border. All the chipmunks and squirrels knew to stay out of sight while the hawk was here!
Last Friday, when Grandma and Grandpa took me out to the bay, I was happy to see that the rhododendron flower buds hadn’t been eaten! There was still ice on the water near us, even though most of the bay was open. I thought the icicles in the water made a pretty pattern!
It was warm enough to go to the Point to watch sunset for the first time this season. There was still ice on the pier and around the lighthouse! The sun didn’t quite set far enough north to go down over the lake instead of the land. By Saturday morning, all the ice on the bay was gone!
Uncle Steven invited us to come for dinner on Saturday, so Grandma made a coffee cheesecake to take for dessert. Thomas and James had the toy car racetrack set up in the living room and dining room! After we raced some cars on it, Thomas and I watched a video until it was time for dinner. James played Connect Four with Grandpa and beat him every time! James is very good at Connect Four strategy! After dinner, I helped serve the coffee cheesecake. It was yummy!
Yesterday, after church, it started snowing again! Grandma decided to do some baking. First, I helped her make a coconut cashew semolina cake that we saw on a cooking show. It came out looking just like the photo in the cookbook!
By the time we were done with the cake, the snow was sticking to the ground and not melting anymore! Grandma had some goat cheese left over from the travel dinner, so she decided to make goat cheese biscuits, too! I helped cut in the cheese, roll out the dough and brush the tops of the biscuits with milk. They were ready in time for dinner!
This morning, when I got up, there was even more snow on the ground! It’s starting to melt now, but I don’t think snow on April 1st is a very good April Fool’s trick!
Love,
Lion-san
We figured that you would be upset when you saw the snow this AM. Happy April Fool’s Day! It is nice that your daffodil bulbs are sprouting. Ours are too as our hyacinths and a couple tulips are. The ice on the lake is pretty. We know that Joe-san, Tilly you and Grandma didn’t think so but Nancy-san and Moose-san think so. Joe-san liked the cooking though.
