Assorted Islands!

Hi, everyone!

On our last full day at sea on Thursday, Butlog and LIC and I helped Grandma do a scavenger hunt.  We were looking for art on MS Riviera, based on photos in the scavenger hunt leaflet.  Each of us found at least one piece of art for Grandma!

After that, we went to afternoon tea again.  I was happy Butlog and LIC liked the string quartet as much as I did!  We could see sunset from the balcony of our cabin!

On Friday, we arrived at our first port and had a chance to get off the ship!  We had landed in Aruba, which is off the coast of Venezuela!

Grandma and Grandpa took us to de Palm Island for the day.  Butlog had to go back to work, so he didn’t come.  de Palm Island reminded me a lot of Savala Island in Fiji — a private island with beaches, shelters, water sports and a place to eat.  Grandma and Grandpa went snorkeling.  LIC and I figured out how to share one face mask and snorkel, but Grandpa pointed out that only LIC would get any air to breathe, and he wouldn’t be able to see!  LIC and I enjoyed sitting in the sun and watching the water park.  When we went to the conservation display, we learned about Lionfish!  They are eating up all the native fish, so people are being encouraged to eat them!

LIC and I made friends with the Chilean flamingos and admired the orchids.  Grandma did take us wading after we looked at everything else, then we had lunch in the outdoor restaurant.  We could see tropical fish in the water below!

We were tired after our busy day, but that didn’t stop us from going to afternoon tea and watching sunset from our balcony!  LIC and I tried to call Butlog to tell him about our day, but he didn’t answer his phone.

On Saturday, we reached our second port of call, Bonaire!  Grandma and Grandpa got up really early to go snorkeling again!  This time, they paddled to the snorkel site at Te Amo beach in kayaks with transparent bottoms!

Grandpa took pictures of some of the fish he saw underwater!

LIC and I didn’t go along, but Grandma and Grandpa took us back to the beach in the afternoon so we could see the clear kayaks.  On the way back, we saw some bougainvilla that reminded me of Hawaii!

On Saturday evening, MS Riviera set sail for our next island!  LIC decided to take a photo of me, so we could send it to Butlog.  Then we hung around our cabin for the rest of the evening!

Sunday morning we arrived in Grenada!  Grandma and Grandpa were going kayaking again, but they decided they could bring LIC and me along!  We took a van down the coast to a little village with a beach.  LIC and I tried sitting in a kayak and decided we’d stay on the beach while Grandma and Grandpa went out.

Grandma said the paddling was a good upwind workout!  When they paddled around the next rocky point, they could see underwater statues through the clear kayak bottoms!

When we got back to MS Riviera, we went up to the top deck to watch sunset.  Then we discovered that Robielyn-san and Butlog had left us a new elephant friend made of towels!

Every day we are landing on a new island.  We’re gradually working our way north, headed for home.

Love,

Lion-san

  1. Seems you are having a good time and enjoying the warm weather. Snowing here today, turning to wintry mix later. 5″ to 8″ snow predicted. Temp is in the twenties. Enjoy the warm vacation. I like seeing your photos. Great Aunt Betsy

  2. Lovely, lovely. Lovely. We have a storm here today and dicey driving. Would love some of that sun .
So glad you are having spectacular sunsets and art.
We are holding the fort. (I think).
    Love,
    LaVache and Grandma

  3. Nancy-san decided to look at the computer and found this blog about a Lion and a Cow. It was on couple of islands. They looked very interesting. The fish looked pretty all blue and the statue was neat.
