In Between the Rainy Days!

Hi, everyone!

July was very dry, but now in August we’ve had some days with lots of rain!  Grandma says all the plants need the water, so we should be creative about staying inside when it’s wet.    One rainy day, James and Thomas got movie DVDs from the library.  After they watched the Lego Ninjago movie, James decided to relabel their bedroom as a Ninjago fort!  Now that the grass is green and juicy again, the groundhog who lives under our deck has been out snacking!  Out at the bay, the double daylilies are in bloom.  I think they are as pretty as the daylilies we saw on the garden tour!

Last weekend, Grandma and Grandpa took me to the bay, but James and Thomas and their mommy and daddy stayed in town to go to a party.  They missed a beautiful sunset and sunrise!  Grandma and I started a jigsaw puzzle and did the hard parts so James and Thomas will be able to finish it.

Thomas has a new rainy day activity!  He goes exploring in the basement with his daddy!  Grandma and Grandpa saved a lot of toys from when Uncles Bill and David and Steven were boys, and some of them are on shelves in the basement.  There are lots of GI Joe vehicles and Tranformers!  Thomas gets to pick one toy to play with.  Most of the time, the toys need to be cleaned off first!

Thomas explored the family room closet, too, and had his daddy get out the Space Warp set — another saved toy.  Uncle Steven set it all up, but the plastic connectors were so brittle that the track fell apart the first time it was used!  Meanwhile, James got a whole set of Minecraft Zombie diary books and has been reading them to everybody.  On a day when it was sunny, he wanted to take them to the playground!  I offered to keep them company at home, instead.

One day, it stopped raining in time for us to eat dinner on the deck.  Thomas helped Grandpa put up the umbrella to shade our eyes from the setting sun!  Another day, Grandma printed off two new books about me.  James and Thomas helped her trim the pages.  James decided everybody needed a trimmed off strip with “Lion-san Book 55” on it, even me!  Another day, when it was too wet to play in the back yard, James and Thomas made personal spaces with laundry baskets.  Uncle Steven got the Wii game system out and has been showing James and Thomas how to play Super Mario Galaxy.  Thomas knows how to get Mario to the start of the Rainbow roller coaster, and James has actually finished that level!

Yesterday, between rain storms, Thomas and Grandma went out to get the mail.  Thomas found a little toad in the grass!  He gave it a ride up the driveway to another grassy spot, then let it go.  After lunch, Grandma took me over to the new house.  Uncle Steven and Aunt Kara have had some of the trees in the back yard removed, so now the begonia on the deck gets more sun — when it’s not raining!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. We are home again. Now we don’t have to wait till Sat to get your blog! Everyone needs a Lion -san Book 55 thin strip. It looks like Uncle Steven has been kept quite busy what with exploring the basement and putting the Space Warp together and having James read to him. It looks like something other than the GI Joe things needed cleaning.
