Plantings and Picnic Tables!

It rained the day after we got back from Ottawa, but the next day, Wednesday, Grandma and Grandpa took me out to the bay.  The grass was growing so fast that Grandpa was afraid he wouldn’t be able to mow it if we waited until the weekend!  I was afraid I’d miss my azalea friends blooming if we waited till the weekend, so I was happy to go, too!  As it turned out, my deciduous azalea friends were just starting to bloom and the jack-in-the pulpits were blooming in the woods.

Grandma wanted a new picnic table at the bay for her birthday present.  When we went back to the bay on Friday for the start of Memorial Day weekend, Grandpa and I put it together!  The new picnic table is plastic and metal, so it should be easier to keep nice.  I made sure we followed all the assembly instructions!

Grandma and Grandpa had done some other shopping for outdoor furniture, so there were new cushions for the chairs we use at the table on the porch.  I liked having a new colorful cushion to sit on while the red azalea was blooming right next to me!  We went to the Point for sunset, and it was hazy and cloudy.  When we got back, I found an eagle feather by the road!

We went back to Fairport on Saturday.  On the way back, Grandma bought impatiens for the window box planter.  I helped her plant them as soon as we got back.   Then Grandma sewed tapes on the corners of the new cushions so we can tie them to the chairs.  Grandpa drilled a hole in the picnic table on the deck in Fairport so he could put an umbrella up.  Now we’ll be able to eat on the deck without getting sun in our eyes!  I’m looking forward to having meals on the deck with James and Thomas and Bill and Karin this summer!  I think we’re all ready!

Last Wednesday, I helped Grandma make four batches of biscotti.  First, we made two batches of our friend Rita-san’s favorites.  Then we made Grandpa’s favorites as an early birthday present.  I was a good helper with mixing and slicing and packaging!

This past Friday, we went back to the bay.  Joe-san and Nancy-san came out to stay overnight and they brought Moose-san and Tilly.  Before they arrived, I helped Grandma plant the herb garden.  I was happy my azalea and rhododendron friends were still in bloom for Moose-san and Tilly to see!

We’ve had a lot of really warm summery weather, but Saturday morning was chilly and very windy.  There were white caps on the bay!  Grandma and Nancy-san decided it was definitely NOT a day to launch the kayaks, so Moose-san and Tilly and I took our kayak ride inside!

Joe-san brought out the bread dough for the church communion bread, so Moose-san and Tilly and I helped him bake it.  Doesn’t it look yummy?

When it warmed up a little in the afternoon, Moose-san and Tilly and I did go outside.  The wind was blowing the blossoms off the deciduous azaleas!  I think the spring flower season is officially over!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. Hi!

We all had a good time at Sodus Bay! You were a big help with all the projects. The new picnic table looks great, so do the cushions. Joe-san wants to thank you for helping with the Communion bread and Tilly and Moose-san thank you for the kayak ride and nobody got wet!
