Weather Wednesdays!

Hi, everyone!

When I got back from my trip, I thought spring was here.  I was wrong!  Right after the first snowdrops bloomed, we had some snow!  Then it melted, but two Wednesdays ago we had a big windstorm.  There were branches down all over the yard in Fairport and the power went out at Sodus.  When Grandpa went out to Sodus to check things out after the power came back on, the heat pump wouldn’t start.  It’s a good thing we drained the plumbing there before our trip so the pipes couldn’t freeze!

Then last Wednesday, we had an even bigger windstorm.  There were wind gusts up to 81 miles per hour!  So many trees and utility poles were blown over that 120,000 homes in Monroe County lost their power!  It took the electric company over a day just to figure out where to start making repairs!  Grandma and Grandpa and I were lucky.  We only lost our power for three hours on Saturday, while the repair crew was replacing a utility pole near us, and we have a generator to keep our lights and heat going.  Some of my church friends lost power for two or three days!  Grandma and I stored frozen food in our freezer for my pie baking buddies, so it wouldn’t spoil.

We did lose our cable and internet connection from the second windy Wednesday until yesterday morning.  Then it started to snow, and it hasn’t stopped!  This Wednesday the first number on our snow gauge that isn’t covered with snow is 24 inches!  There’s so much snow on the deck that I couldn’t get to the snow cave under the picnic table even if I wanted to play there!

The repair people fixed the heat pump at Sodus just in time, before the snow blocked our driveway out there.  Practically everything in Fairport is canceled today because of the snow and I’m happy to stay inside!  I’ve been helping Grandma try out recipes for our travel dinner, so maybe we’ll do some cooking!

Love,

Lion-san

  1. Two Wednesdays in a row is too many! Our power was out last week but it didn’t go out until after we loaned out our generator. It came back on on Friday after 5:00. Tonight we were supposed to go to a hockey game but luckily it was cancelled. We can stay home and Joe-san can shovel some more. A nice man came over and plowed our driveway today so Moose-san didn’t have to come out.
