Hi, everyone!
The weather is still going back and forth between warm and cold! It was warm enough that Grandma and I started pruning the apple trees in Fairport. Even though we pruned all the apple trees last year, there was still a lot of pruning to do! We got two and a half trees pruned before it got cold again! Grandma says there will be more warm days when we will be able to finish the job before spring.
Then we had more snow! There wasn’t any wind, so the snow stayed on all the branches. It was very pretty!
The snow melted again, but Grandma and I had other things to do besides pruning! Grandma and Grandpa’s church was having a Bossa Nova night to raise money to help a church in Honduras. Grandma promised to make South American and Central American food to serve as appetizers at the party. On Thursday, I helped Grandma make and freeze empanaditas — little meat turnovers with olives and raisins. Then on Saturday we made llapingachos — potato and cheese patties that are served in Ecuador. I was a good helper! First we had to peel the potatoes and cut them up. After they were cooked, Grandma did the shaping, because my paws weren’t big enough to do it. I did help measure the temperature of the frying pan to make sure the patties would get a nice golden crust on both sides. Then I helped paint the frozen empanaditas with egg yolk wash before they went into the oven to bake!
Grandma and Grandpa figured out how to keep all the food warm on the trip over to the church for the party. I got to go, too, even though it was past my bedtime! We shared a table with my best buddies Joe-san and Nancy-san and my Hawaiian travel friends Joan-san and Ron-san. I made new friends, too! Mark-san is one of the brothers playing bossa nova music and Nadine is his saxophone. They make very pretty music together!
It’s almost Nancy-san’s birthday, so I took her a present. There was lots of food at the party, but every single empanadita and llapingacho got eaten before intermission! Then everybody went downstairs to the dessert buffet. There were lots of yummy sweet things to eat, too!
I like bossa nova music! It was fun to watch the brothers and their uncle play together. I’m glad Grandma and Grandpa took me to the party.
This morning when I woke up there was snow on the ground again, and we’re supposed to have even more over the next day or so. I think Grandma and I will have to wait a while to do any more pruning!
Love,
Lion-san
Yes, I think you and Grandma will have to wait a while to do more pruning! We all liked my present from you especially Nancy-san and Moose-san. The food was very good at the Bossa Nova night. Nancy-san said she was glad you helped her eat it all. Today Moose-san saw lots of geese flying north, so spring must be coming soon. He is looking forward to some fresh aquatic weeds!
