Advent-ures!

Hi, everyone!
At Grandma and Grandma’s church, the four Sundays before Christmas are called Advent. That’s the time to get ready for Christmas and think about the Christmas story. I’ve been doing that, but I’m having other adventures, too! Last week, I got to talk to Karin-chan and Bill-kun on Skype. They played their piano recital pieces for me to hear! Then James came over for his first play day. He wanted to make sticky buns again! He and Grandpa played with the marble run, too. Grandma says the marble run was a Christmas present for James’ and Thomas’ daddy when he was about James’ age!

Last week was tree week! Grandpa hired a tree crew to take down the tree at Sodus that got split in two by another tree a couple of years ago. I got to watch the crew and their big truck working at the neighbor’s house, but we left before they took down our tree. On our way back to Fairport, we got our Christmas tree. The lady at the tree farm remembered me from last year! I helped Grandpa decide which tree to choose. Then I made sure the tree was baled so we could put it in Grandma’s car without hurting any of the branches. It just fit!

After we got the tree, Grandma and I made a sour cream peach pie. We took it to Grandma Ginny’s, and Grandma cooked the rest of dinner there. Thomas really liked the pie! He and I and Santa spent some time together before Thomas went to bed.

Because we made dinner for Grandma Ginny on Friday, we didn’t get around to putting up the tree right away. On Saturday last week, I helped Grandpa put the tree trunk into the stand and bring the tree into the living room. Once it was set in the stand, I got to unwrap the twine and let the branches out again! Then Sunday night, Grandma and Grandpa took Thomas and James to the church ADVENT-ure. They had supper at church, then they went to Powers Farm market where some of my church friends acted out the story of baby Jesus. James and Thomas got to pet the donkey, who was very gentle and soft! It was very comfortable to be outside, because the weather has been so warm this month!

On Monday, Grandma and Grandpa and I took James and Thomas to the Strong Museum to play. James started with his favorites — making kaleidoscope shapes and driving the drag racing cars. Thomas is big enough now to do some exploring on his own and to help James pilot the helicopter. They drove the Sesame Street cab and put together wheels and axles in the Sid the Science Kid exhibit. Then James showed Thomas how to make designs with the light rods. When he was done, Thomas took out all the rods and put them away.

We went to the new exhibit about Things That Go and played with the big machine there, then we took time out to have lunch. After that, we went to the pirate ship and giant’s playroom. Just before we left, we all had a ride on the merry-go-round! Grandpa helped Thomas. James and I helped each other! It was fun! Thomas was tired and went back to Grandma Ginny’s for a nap. James and I played at Grandma and Grandpa’s, then we watched part of A Charlie Brown Christmas before it was time for James to go to Grandma Ginny’s, too!

On Tuesday afternoon, I helped Grandpa put the lights on the Christmas tree. I picked which color light to give him next, so that the colors would be spread out all over the tree. Then I helped Grandma put the decorations on the tree. I was happy to see all my friends again, especially the Christmas moose! There are so many ornaments, we didn’t finish putting them on until Wednesday! Grandma and I had to make sure nothing breakable was someplace on the tree that Thomas can reach!

There’s still a week before Christmas and Grandma says we’ll have even more advent-ures. I’m a very excited little lion!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. It is always fun to go to the Strong Museum especially if you have someone to play with! You helped Grandpa pick out a really nice tree. It looks nice all decorated also. Moose-san likes the Moose ornament too.
