Hi, everyone!
There’s no question now that it’s fall! We even had snow on October 18. It didn’t last, but when I woke up that day there was snow on the benches on the back deck!
Last Sunday was pie making day at Grandma and Grandpa’s church. I made sure I got to go help! Seventy people worked, mostly peeling and slicing apples. I was happy to see some of my apple picking friends again! Moose-san came too! He especially liked the apple peeling machines. We made sure that the apple slices were just the right size to go into the pies!
At the same time the apples were being peeled in the Big Room, the crust makers and rollers were working in the kitchen! Practically everybody there is already my friend! My new friend Lily rolled out pie crust with Grandma. Doesn’t her bottom crust look nice? Moose-san and I made sure the pies were filled to the brim before they got top crusts, then we helped my apple-picking friends wrap the very last pie. That was pie number 173! LaVache’s Grandma helped us count the money from the pies that were sold right away!
The rest of the pies will be sold at the Election Day Bake Sale, the beginning of November. Grandma is already collecting lots of ingredients in the family room! I’m getting excited about seeing all my baking friends again! And guess what? Even after we made so many apple pies at church, Grandma and I needed to make one more to take to Grandma Ginny! That was the third pie we made this year with apples off Grandma and Grandpa’s own apple tree.
At Sodus, the trees are really showing their fall colors. Lots of leaves are falling down, too! Yesterday, we had a very pretty sunrise and a little bit of direct sun on the leaves before the sun went behind clouds for the rest of the day.
Harlan-san brought his family out to help Grandpa take the docks out of the water. With so much help, we had everything removed and stacked in record time! That was good, because the cloudy day turned rainy just as we got done!
Love,
Lion-san
Yes Joe-san had to scrape snow and frost off the car before going to church on Oct. 18. The pie making is always fun and fun to see the people all helping. The apples were really big too. Moose-san had a fun time too. It really is fall. Nancy-san cut the grass probably for the last time but there are still leaves on the trees. Joe-san stilll has to harvest the compost and till the garden.
