Hi, everyone!
The end of last month, we had a big full moon with a lunar eclipse. That means the shadow of the earth got in between the moon and the sun for a little while. Grandma let me stay up to see it. Guess what? The moon turned red! We’re starting to see red maple leaves, too, because it really is fall now!
Grandpa took his new long-handled pruning saw out to Sodus to cut down more branches! Grandma and I were busy cutting them up and hauling them into the woods! Grandpa took down some tree limbs in the yard, but mostly he was cutting shrubs and trees that were blocking our view of the bay. Look at how much of the water we can see now!
The weather stayed warm enough last week that we got to go sailing! I even helped Grandpa steer the sailboat! When we got back, I helped take the sails and life jackets back to the cottage. Grandma and Grandpa were pretty sure that was the last sail of the season, so I was glad I went along!
In Fairport, I’ve been helping Grandma with a big project. She is scanning all the photographic slides that she and Grandpa have taken, so they have digital copies to share. There are LOTS of slides! We just finished scanning the ones from 1989! It’s fun to see all the old pictures as we scan them!
On Saturday, the Young Families from church came out to Sodus to pick apples. Saturday was a very cold, windy day! We all had to dress up warmly to be outside! I used the long-handled apple picker to get apples off the very tops of the Honey Crisp trees, but there were still Crispin apples that Grandma and I could reach from the ground. By the time we got our apples picked, everybody else had finished feeding the farm animals and wanted to get back to our warm house!
Kayla and Mina’s daddy brought a board game to play, so that’s what we did to warm up before dinner was ready. Then we had cheese and crackers and fruit and vegetables and dip. After that, we had chili and bread, then three kinds of dessert. Everything was yummy! Just before everybody left, my friends and I found out how many people could fit in the linen closet. Lyla and Lily and Nina even made room for Patrick and me!
On Sunday, after church, Grandma and I made apple pies with the apples I helped pick, plus some off our Fairport apple trees. I helped roll out the pie crust and slice the apples. We made three big pies to put in the freezer to bake later!
The weather forecast for today was for much warmer weather than Saturday, so we went back out to Sodus on Sunday evening so we could haul the sailboat out of the water today. We had a pretty sunrise and nice weather all day. I helped position the cradle for the sailboat, so we could attach a chain and winch the sailboat out of the water. The cradle protects the sailboat hull when it’s out of the water. Once the sailboat was on the dock, it needed a good scrubbing! Then we let it dry and wrapped it up for the winter. I was a good helper with that, too!
On the way back to Fairport, Grandma and Grandpa stopped at Burnap’s Farm Market. Grandma bought some salad greens and let me play on the truck slide and train. I remembered playing there with James and Thomas and Moose-san this summer! The fall flowers for sale are very pretty! Then I visited the pumpkins! I even found some the right size for Moose-san!
Love,
Lion-san
Nancy-san says she thinks the bird was through with the nest. That was a very pretty sunrise. The pumpkin you found for me, Moose-san, was the right size. I do remember going on the truck slide with you. Fall seems like a lot of work for some but you are a great helper to Grandma and Grandpa but it can be fun doing things like picking apples and making pies!
