Hi, everyone!
There’s a lot to see at Sodus this time of year! The rose mallows and purple loosestrife are in full bloom in the wetlands. Grandma takes me out in the kayak to see them. We’ve had a lot of cloudy sunsets, too, and they are very pretty! And we have a neighborhood eagle! The bald eagle is spending a lot of time sitting on top of a tree at our next door neighbor’s house. We can hear the eagle calling “eek, eek” while it watches for fish to catch.
On Monday, Grandma and Grandpa took me to Chimney Bluffs State Park. We can see Chimney Bluffs from the lighthouse when we go to watch sunset but I’ve never actually visited the bluffs before. Grandma said she and Grandpa haven’t been there since the park was developed. We took the Bluff Trail from the west end of the park, so we had a long walk before we could actually see the bluffs that are eroded into sharp peaks.
Once we got to the top of the cliffs, we walked along the edge to see the various ridges. I liked the way the sun cast shadows on them! One of the valleys looked like a sandy version of the Kalalau Valley in Hawaii!
When we got to the eastern end of the Bluff Trail, we could climb down to water level. There was a north wind with lots of waves, so we couldn’t walk along the beach in front of the bluffs. We took the Drumlin trail back through the woods.
Today we went to a park near us in Fairport. Philbrick Park is a Penfield town park along a stretch of Irondequoit Creek. This part of Irondequoit Creek used to have a lot of mill sites along little waterfalls. Now there is a nice hiking path along the creek. I liked the parts where there were boardwalks over the swampy parts of the bank, but some of the steps were very tall for a little lion!
There were pretty plants growing alongside the path. I made friends with a yellow flower!
After we hiked upstream, we headed in the other direction. There was a big curve in the creek and a tall, sandy bluff. It think it was almost as tall as Chimney Bluffs!
Guess what? Philbrick Park has a playground, too! I think this is the first lavender slide I have ever been on!
Love,
Lion-san
The lavender slide looks like fun. Did you put your paw in the water? – James
It is nice you got to go kayaking to see all the pretty flowers. I forgot to start the Rose mallow seeds you got for me but I think I have some growing in our front flower bed. It is hard to get it all up! We have never been to Chimney Bluffs park and it looks like a great place to go. The park on Irondequoit Creek looks neat too! You have been to a lot of parks this summer!
