Family, Friends and Fireworks!

Hi, everyone!
After cousin Bev’s wedding last Saturday, Grandma and Grandpa and I stayed in Denver until Monday. Sunday morning, we went to Four Friends Kitchen for beignets and fried green tomatoes. On our way there, we discovered a farmer’s market. The vegetables were very colorful! We stayed over so we could visit one of Grandma’s friends on Sunday afternoon. Robb-san’s mother and Grandma’s mother were best friends even before Grandma was born! I made friends with Robb-san’s great-granddaughter Aubry and showed her my blog. Aubry likes the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, too, and we talked about our favorite parts of the Mythical Monsters exhibit. Robb-san’s house is right next to a wild area with hiking trails. We could see heat lightning in the sky and it finally rained a little bit while we were eating dinner. I could see some rabbits eating their dinner right outside the dining room window!

On Monday, we had to get up early again to go to the airport. When we got there, I helped Grandma check for e-mail before we got on our flight to Midway airport in Chicago. I liked the snacks on the flight and the clouds were very pretty!

On Wednesday, James and Thomas came to play while Aunt Kara had an appointment. On Thursday, Grandma and Grandpa and I went out to the bay, and James and Thomas and Aunt Kara came out to stay with us on Friday. James had been waiting all year for another chance to help Grandpa drive the boat, so we took the boat out right after dinner. James and Thomas both have new life jackets, so I didn’t have to share mine! Sodus Point always has a fireworks display on July 3. We motored up to the channel so James and Thomas could see how the fireworks display is set up, and on the way we stopped to see a seaplane moored north of Leroy Island. That was a new kind of plane for James! We can see the fireworks display from our dock, so we didn’t need to stay out until dark in the boat. Thomas went to bed but James and I stayed up until 10 p.m. when the fireworks started. It was hard to stay awake that late, even though Aunt Kara read us a story! After 9 p.m., some of our neighbors lit flares and started shooting off fireworks. The explosions were very loud! When we went down to the dock to watch the official fireworks show from Sodus Point, we could see fireworks all around us!

Grandpa left the motorboat tied up at the dock so James and Aunt Kara could sit in it to watch the fireworks, but we all ended up sitting in folding chairs on the dock. James sat in Grandma’s lap so he wouldn’t fall off the dock in the dark. It was a very nice show!

On Saturday morning, we all had waffles and strawberries for breakfast. The local strawberry season is almost over, so we wanted to make sure we had some more before they were all gone. I spent some time with my friend Panda, then Thomas wanted me to help him get around the baby gate so he could climb the big staircase. He’s too little to do that safely yet! Grandma took James for his first kayak ride, then we all took another ride in the motorboat.

When we came back from our motorboat ride, Grandpa and I pushed James on the swing. James knows how to hang on so he can swing high now! After that, we played with the Matchbox cars. Aunt Kara counted them, and we have 82! Then we all went outside again to play. James and Grandpa played soccer with a beach ball. I helped Thomas learn how to climb down the stairs from the deck. Thomas wanted to go down the big stairs to the dock, but I suggested he make friends with a fern and a day lily instead. After that I needed a rest!

Aunt Kara had to take James and Thomas back to Grandma Ginny’s house after lunch, but I’m glad they could come for the fireworks and stay overnight!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. What a neat seaplane and fireworks! Moose-san saw Henrietta’s fireworks. They were very nice but more people were there than where you were! We love fireworks!! That was good that you helped Thomas go down safely but we were also glad he decided to look at a fern and daylily instead of going all the way to the dock.
