Hi, everyone!
Grandma and I have been waiting for green day — the day that all the leaves seem to open up in the spring. This year, though, the leaves came out bit by bit. Grandma and I have been having adventures to watch all the green days! The very last day of April, we went back to Highland Park. A few of the magnolia trees were blossoming, but most just had flower buds. I visited my helleborus friends in the Poets’ Garden and visited the pansy bed. After we stopped at the reservoir, Grandma and I went to the tulip bed. There were only a few of my tulip friends in bloom, but I told them all about the tulips at Keukenhof that were already blooming.
There wasn’t a lot of green at Grandma and Grandpa’s house in April, but there were some flowers! I made friends with the forsythia blossoms and the magnolia blossoms on the tree across the street. My double daffodil friend bloomed.
When Grandma and Grandpa took me out to the bay, we had a pretty sunset and full moonrise. That full moon is called the “flower moon”. My primrose friend was in bloom, and leaves were starting to grow back on the euonymus where the deer had eaten it. There were even some flower buds on the azalea!
Look at the changes when we went back to Highland Park yesterday! Now all the leaves are out on the trees! Karin-chan and Bill-kun already had their picture taken with the cherry blossoms in Japan and James and Thomas had their picture taken with the cherry blossoms in the Netherlands. I finally got my picture taken with the cherry blossoms in Highland Park! The tulips are in full bloom and look like a little section of Keukenhof. All of the magnolia trees are blooming! There were even artists in the park, painting the pretty scenes.
The Lilac Festival starts this weekend, so I wanted to see whether my lilac friends were in bloom. Some of them are starting to bloom, but there are lots that are waiting! I saw my groundhog friends again. I bet they will stay in their burrows when the Lilac Festival crowds come! I made friends with a flowering almond and a field of daffodils. Then I found a really peaceful part of the park in the pine grove.
Guess what? After we went to Highland Park, Grandma and I had lunch with my Extra Grandma Carol! It was fun to visit at her house, and she served fresh strawberries that were yummy! Grandma reminded me to say “thank you” the way I learned in Thailand.
Now the leaves are finally out on most of the trees, so we have definitely had our green day. There are even apple blossoms starting to open on Grandma and Grandpa’s apple trees!
Love,
Lion-san
It looks like you have a new scarf. Much better with the red tulips than your orange top! Yes, green day has happened. Our wild sweet cherry tree is almost finished blooming, but it is too high up for Joe-san to take my picture. I’m wondering if we will have strawberries the same time we get sweet cherries.
