A Busy Baking Week!

Hi, everyone!

I had a very busy week baking with Grandma!  Last Saturday, Joe-san and Nancy-san brought Moose-san over to help move the supplies for the Election Day bake sale at Grandma and Grandpa’s church.  There were bags and bags of flour, sugar and other ingredients, and lots of Grandma’s baking equipment.  We packed Nancy-san’s truck full!

On Monday, we spent the day and evening at church, making cinnamon rolls and orange rolls and tea rings and challah and three grain bread. I saw a lot of my baking buddies from other years and made some new friends! Everybody was happy when Grandma said that the first tea ring out of the oven was a burnt offering, so the bakers could eat it. It was yummy! In the evening, my apple picking friends came to assemble scone kits, and the chocolate bread makers came, too! Just before I went home, I checked to see how many goodies were ready for sale. There were lots and lots!

Grandma got me up very early on Tuesday, so we could get back to church to start baking again. My scone-making friends were already there! Moose-san and I helped keep track of apple pies in the freezer and the silicone baking sheets that go under the scones and tea rings. All the chocolate bread made Monday sold out, so I helped Grandma Sue make two more batches. Moose-san and I helped wash the baking pans in the big dishwasher. We like the swoosh sound it makes when it starts! At dinnertime, we went upstairs to see what was going on at the sales table. Almost everything was already sold! When I got home, I was so tired I didn’t even take my chef’s hat off before I went to bed!

On Wednesday, Grandma and Grandpa raked more leaves in the yard. Look how big my leaf pile is now! Then I helped Grandma dry and air the baking pans before she put them away for the year.

On Thursday, Grandma and I were baking again! Harlan-san wanted to buy cinnamon rolls at the sale, but he came on Monday before they were baked and all the cinnamon rolls sold out by the end of Tuesday. So Grandma made a batch especially for him. I helped put cinnamon on the rolls and made sure they were risen enough before we baked them. They made the kitchen smell very nice!

Now that we’re done baking, I’m paying attention to the signs of winter coming. The Christmas cactus has lots of buds and is going to bloom soon. Today, we had our first snow showers of the season! Tonight we’re at the bay, and look at how many leaves are down on the road!

Love,
Lion-san
