Hi, everyone!
Two weeks ago, James and Thomas and their mommy and daddy flew to Europe. Grandma let me stay up the night they went, so I could track their flight on the computer. It was a very long trip! Now they’re staying at a hotel until their furniture catches up with them. James likes to call on Facetime, so I help listen for the calls. As soon as he sees Grandma and Grandpa on the iPad, he’s ready to wave “bye-bye” and call his other grandma! He doesn’t even want me to sing him the Spider song!
The wild blackberries are ripe at Sodus! I’ve been helping Grandma pick them. Look how many we’ve picked! Grandma made a blackberry peach cobbler, and then I helped her cook a big batch into blackberry sauce. There are LOTS of seeds in blackberries, and I had to be very careful to keep my paws from getting purple while I helped strain them out!
The summer is almost over! When we go watch sunset at the Point, the sun is setting closer and closer to the shore. Grandpa says that in another week, we won’t be able to see the sun set over water.
Yesterday morning, the bay was very calm. We finally saw the young eagle! It was sitting in a tree near Clark Creek. When the eagle took off, two more young eagles followed it! No wonder we hear the eagle calling so often — it has friends to talk to! Then we saw a mature eagle soaring on our side of the bay, right over the trees that are turning color. Yesterday was really an eagle day!
Today, Grandma got me up to watch the sunrise with her. It was very pretty! Then Grandma and I kayaked back to Clark Creek. I made friends with an Eastern painted turtle in the creek. Then guess what? The mature eagle came and sat on a branch right over the creek! I’ve never seen so many eagles around here!
The leaves are turning color, and so are the apples. They’re almost ripe, now, and I’m busy making apple friends in the orchard. Pretty soon it will be apple picking time!
Love,
Lion-san
Those blackberries look good. I bet it was hard not to get dyed with the color. That is neat to see so many eagles. I keep looking in the sky while I am swimming but the birds never get close enough for me to tell what they are except the turkey vultures!
The rose mallow Grandma gave me I’ll try to start next spring, but the neighbor that I thought had some didn’t, I could tell by the leaf. Do you suppose it is related to cosmos flower plant?
