Play Places with James and Thomas!

Hi, everyone!
James and Thomas and their mommy and daddy came for a visit before they move to Europe. I gave Thomas a big hug right away when I saw him. He has grown a lot since the last time I saw him!

James really likes going to playgrounds, so we’ve been finding lots of play places for him to visit. First, we went to the playground at Perinton Park. James really likes the big kids’ slides, even the one with waves in it! He climbed up most of the stairs and rode on the bouncy plane. James’ daddy helped him on the overhead rings and I showed him how to play the big maracas and get up one of the walls.

Thomas came too, but he slept the whole time! He and Grandma Ginny sat in the shade while James ran around. Then James and I stopped for a snack where Grandma Ginny was sitting. James called Grandma Ginny from his mommy’s phone while he was sitting right next to her!

Last Sunday, we went to a really fancy play place, The Strong museum of play. There was so much to see that James didn’t know where to begin! First I helped him pick out shapes to look at under the kaleidoscope. Then he took a ride on the train with his mommy and daddy and played in the old fashioned parlor and kitchen. We baked some play potatoes in the oven!

James’ and Thomas’ cousins Mady Rose and William joined us there, and we had a make believe dinner with lots of vegetables! Then we all went to the craft area. James and I made a butterfly out of a coffee filter, and Aunt Krista showed me how to make a boondoggle out of plastic cord. I took time out to go into the fantasy hall and try to pull the sword out of the stone. Do you think getting it out would make me Lion King? After that, we went upstairs to the Toy Hall of Fame. James and William put a face on Mr. Potato Head, and James’ daddy explained how slinky toys work. Then James’ daddy and I helped James put pegs into the giant Lite Brite toy. I remember doing that with Karin, when we went to the same museum three years ago!

Thomas came too, and guess what he did? Slept the entire time we were at the museum! James and I had a snack at the Strong, then we all came out to Sodus. By then, Thomas needed another nap and so did I!

On Monday, it rained all day! Annie and her mommy and daddy came out, but we all had to stay inside to play. No boat rides this year! James and Annie and I did some coloring, and then we played iPad games. We had a yummy dinner with flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Everybody loved that cake!

Tuesday, it dried out a little bit. We went to the playground at Burnap’s Farm Market. I don’t think James remembered being there last year, but I did! James and I went down the slide in the castle, then James’ mommy and daddy took James through the great big corn maze! I got to ring the bell on the train, and James and I played on the big truck. Thomas was asleep again! But at least he and I got to ride on the train while James pretended he was the engineer.

Wednesday was cloudy and cool, but there was no rain in the morning. We went to the playground at the Sodus Point beach. We got there early, when nobody else was around. James and I rode on the bouncy cars, and then James figured out how to climb all the way up the tall twisty slide! There were just two swings, but that was enough for James and me! And guess what? Thomas stayed awake to watch us! He even stayed awake when we got home and had a snack on the picnic table at Grandma and Grandpa’s.

This morning, it was raining again, but we had a sunny period between storms. Grandpa got out the boat and we took a ride on the bay. Grandpa showed James how to steer the boat and make it go faster and slower. Then James and his daddy and I sat in the very front of the boat. It’s fun riding there! Guess who fell asleep as soon as he got in the boat? Thomas!

Tomorrow James and Thomas and their mommy and daddy are driving back to Virginia, and next week the movers start packing up all of James’ and Thomas’ furniture and toys to go to the Netherlands. I’m glad we got a chance to play together before they go!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. We are back in Maine and I think we had part of the same rain you all had in Sodus. One day it rained all day! Nancy-san started a puzzle. She worked on it all day except when she went swimming. Even Joe-san has been swimming so the water must be warm. It was really nice you got to all the playgrounds even if Thomas did fall asleep through most of them.
