Hi, everyone!
Grandpa says today is officially the last day of summer, and we had some summer weather again this week! On Wednesday, Grandma and Grandpa took me to Corbett’s Glen. That’s a park in the valley of Allens Creek. It’s a little hard to find! We had to walk under a railroad bridge and go past somebody’s house to get there! The creek gets into the park the same way we did.
There’s a path from the entrance of the park along the creek to Postcard Falls. That’s a very pretty spot! The falls aren’t as high as the ones in Nikko, but it’s nice to sit next to them in the sunshine and watch the water. There’s a survey marker there, just like the one on the end of the Sodus Point pier.
After we looked at the falls, we hiked around the south end of Corbett’s Glen on the trail. I found some ripe wild strawberries! There’s a boardwalk in the wetland areas, so we could see the marsh plants without getting muddy. In the woods, the path is wood chips or gravel. I’m glad Grandma and Grandpa took me there!
On Thursday, we came out to Sodus to enjoy the nice weather. The harvest moon rose just after sunset!
The weather feels like summer, and it still looks like summer on the bay. The late summer wildflowers are in bloom. But the leaves are starting to fall, too! Some of the trees are even beginning to turn fall colors! I guess summer really is over!
Grandma and Grandpa are beginning to get Sodus ready for winter. I helped Grandpa take the motorboat to the boat gas station, so Grandpa could fill up the gas tank for the winter. Boats have to have a special kind of gas! When we got back, I got to ride into the boathouse with the boat on the marine railway!
This afternoon, Grandma and I took a walk in the orchard. There are lots of apples on the trees this year, because the weather was very good for growing apples. They’re almost ready to pick! I made apple friends all over the orchard!
This evening, Grandma and Grandpa and I watched the last summer sunset from the pier. Guess what? The winter storm fences are already up on the beach! Goodbye summer!
Love,
Lion-san
Corbetts Glen looks like a very pretty place! Yes the end of summer is here. We are all back from Maine for the winter. Except for the terrible wind that took our power out and the humid few days we had Nancy-san and Moose-san thought the weather was great, nice and cool! Nancy-san even got swimming in until the last day! We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
