Hi, everyone!
It was really hot during our last weekend in Japan! On our way back from the Skytree on Friday, we got sashimi and yakitori at the grocery store for dinner. I watched to make sure Karin-chan ate her dinner! On Saturday, Bill-kun and Karin-chan and I played with water balloons in the wading pool to stay cool. Then I helped make shave ice for everybody. Keeping up with Bill-kun and Karin-chan on a very hot day made me tired!
Bill-kun and Karin-chan’s other grandma and grandpa (oba-chan and ogi-chan) were coming for dinner on Saturday night, so Grandma did some baking. Bill-kun and Karin-chan helped knead the dough for focaccia, and I helped spread it in the pan after the dough rose. Then Grandma made carrot cake and carrot cupcakes with the carrots we picked from the garden. Bill-kun and Karin-chan’s daddy made pasta for dinner and their mommy made a caprese salad. Dinner was yummy!
On Sunday morning, Bill-kun and Karin-chan and I hung out and watched Kamen Rider on TV. Kamen Rider is about superheroes — sort of like Japanese Transformers. Then we played with Legos and Bill-kun and Karin-chan showed me a game on the iPad. On Sunday evening, we went to a restaurant with deep fat fryers on the table. We had batter and bread crumbs on the table for meat and vegetable pieces on skewers and could cook as many as we wanted. The dessert bar had a chocolate fountain. Karin-chan really liked making chocolate coated marshmallows and putting sprinkles on them!
On Monday, it was time to leave. I got goodbye hugs from Karin-chan and her hitsuji-sans. Grandma and Grandpa took three trains to get to the airport, then a big plane to Seattle, Washington. In Seattle, the lines to check passports and luggage were so long that we barely made it onto our next flight to Chicago. When that plane got close to Chicago, it didn’t have enough fuel to wait its turn to land, so the plane landed in Minneapolis, instead, to get more fuel. By the time the plane got back to Chicago, it was so late that our flight back to Rochester had already left and there was no room on the later flight. Our checked luggage made it back to Rochester, but we had to spend the night in Chicago!
On Tuesday, when we finally got home, I was really tired! It was morning in Rochester but after my bedtime in Japan. Grandma tucked me in for a nap with the picture of me that Bill-kun drew on the way to Nikko. She said that a long nap would make me feel like a new lion! Guess what? She was right!
Love,
Lion-san
Lion-san it doesn’t look like you really got in the wading pool. Smart fellow!
I bet you got really tired on the long flight home. You sure know how to extend an adventure to the last minute (Joe-san’s comment)
