Company for Dinner!

Hi, everyone!

We’re finally starting to get some spring weather here! The snow is all gone and more of the crocus are blooming. Some of the crocus are still coming up in the lawn, even though I told them last year that they were supposed to be in the border!

Last week I was busy helping Grandma and Grandpa get ready for their travel dinner. This year, they planned a menu based on all the national capitals we visited this year: Washington DC, Tokyo Japan, and Sukhothai, Lopburi, Ayutthaya, Thonburi and Bangkok Thailand. When Grandma figured out the menu based on dishes we ate in all those places, I helped her go shopping. We had to go to the Asian markets to get some of the special ingredients for the Thai dishes!
After Grandma made pork stock, I helped her add all the ingredients that made it taste just like the noodles we had in Sukhothai. I had to be very careful using the big knife to cut up the lemon grass! Then I helped make the char shiu pork to go into the noodle bowls. After that, Grandma and I made the French pancakes for the crepe cake we had at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. We had to make them one at a time and put them on cookie sheets to cool after both sides were browned. Later, we made a BIG batch of peach mousse like the dessert we had in Hakone.

I helped Grandpa get ready for the party, too! First he made kanom krok, just like the street vendors in Thonburi. Then he printed and trimmed a new set of photos for the kitchen door, telling the story of our trips this year. There are lots of pictures of Bill-kun and Karin-chan and James, and I’m in a lot of them, too!

On Saturday, Joe-san and Nancy-san brought Moose-san to help do the final cooking for the party. We couldn’t help wrap the raw chicken in pandanus leaves, because Grandma and Nancy-san didn’t want us to get our paws in the marinade. Moose-san wanted to be in charge of the peach mousse, so we helped by making sure everybody got their desserts. That gave us a chance to visit with all our travel dinner friends. After we were sure everybody else had been served, we got to eat our slices of crepe cake. It was yummy!

I like parties!
Love,
Lion-san

  1. Hi!
The crocus in the lawn look like white ones and would be pretty near the lilac ones. I dug up some daffidils last year and there are still some where I thougt I got all the bulbs. Oh well, they will look pretty anyway.
We had fun at the party last weekend too! I’m glad you both got your just desserts!
