Indian Summer

Hi, everyone!
We’ve had a lot of sunny, warm weather over the last week! Grandma says this is called “Indian Summer”. Last Wednesday, it was so nice that Grandma and Grandpa put sealer on the driveway. That’s very black and sticky stuff! I wanted to help, but Grandma says if I got any sealer on my fur, I would have spots like a leopard forever! After Grandma and Grandpa sealed the driveway, they made me a leaf pile to play in, too!

On Thursday, Grandma and I went hiking with Joan-san to see the fall colors in Mendon Ponds park. There were lots of pretty yellow trees along the paths! I made friends with some milkweed and a willow tree and some pretty marsh plants that didn’t tell me their names. We walked around Quaker Pond. It was windy, and Joan-san made sure I didn’t fall into the pond.

On Friday, Grandma and Grandpa and I went out to Sodus. The trees there were as pretty as a park! I really liked the red leaves on the maple trees and sumac, and I made apple friends in the orchard.

Saturday was another lovely day. The bay was calm and that was good, because Harlan and Katie were coming to help take the dock out. I was happy to see them! Katie let me wear her new hat while she and Harlan and Grandpa took the dock sections out, one by one. They are very heavy, so I couldn’t help carry them. I did make sure the sections were stacked up evenly for the winter. After the dock work was all done, Katie and I made nachos. They were yummy!

On Sunday, Grandma took me to church for apple pie making. I got to see lots of my baking friends! First I helped with apple peeling, then I helped Mike-san make crust and I helped Joan-san roll the crust out. Nancy-san reminded me to keep my paws out of the dough! Then I helped wrap up the finished pies. There was a big crowd of workers and we made 193 pies! When we were finished, I played with Kessa while Grandma cleaned up.

Today, Grandma and Grandpa raked more leaves. Look how big the leaf pile is now! And look how much flour Grandma has for Election Day baking! I’m looking forward to seeing even more of my baking friends then!

Love,
Lion-san

  1. Someone once told Nancy-san that she could spin milkweed but she has decided that she has enough to spin! You look very nice with the pretty red sumac! Yes, making pies was fun and we got so many to sell on election day!
