Kidzania!

Hi, everyone!
Now Grandma and Grandpa and I are visiting Bill-kun and Karin-chan and their mommy and daddy. Yesterday we went to Kidzania, on the other side of Tokyo. Kidzania is a place where boys and girls can have fun trying out jobs. Grandma says it felt like a mixture of Disney World and Take Your Child to Work day! We got there right at opening time, and there was a really long line!

The first jobs Bill-kun and Karin-chan tried were in the big airplane. Bill-kun was a pilot and Karin-chan was a flight attendant.
We could watch what was going on inside the plane on a monitor. First, Karin-chan was a passenger. Then she got to make the safety announcements. And guess what? Bill-kun and Karin-chan both got paid Kidzania money for doing their jobs!

Some children were practicing being fire fighters. They drove to the scene of the fire in a fire truck and got to spray water on a building that looked like it was burning. I got to try handling one of the fire hoses and sitting on the fire truck!

Karin-chan and Bill-kun went to the bank to open accounts with their flying job money, and they got ATM cards so they could get their money back out without having to go back to the bank. Then we took a break for lunch. Kidzania is in a shopping mall close to Tokyo Bay, so we could look out at the water while we were having lunch.

After lunch, Bill-kun and Karin-chan went to work in the French bread bakery. Karin-chan showed me the instructions for the job. Then she and Bill-kun got all dressed up as bakers. They had to wash their hands before they could go to work. I got to watch through the window as they shaped the dough. When they were done, they got paid AND they got just-baked rolls and croissants to keep! Karin-chan shared one with me. It was yummy!

After being bakers, Bill-kun and Karin-chan decided to be musicians in a recording session. Bill-kun played the drums and Karin-chan played the tambourine. They made a DVD! The credits showed Bill-kun’s Japanese name, Ryusei.

The last job Bill-kun and Karin-chan tried was working in a vegetable store as clerks. They had to wash their hands again, then they packaged up green beans to sell. After that, they waited on the customers and packaged up their purchases. They got paid again! They have lots more money to put in their bank accounts!

It was a very busy day and Bill-kun and Karin-chan worked very hard. They both fell asleep on the drive home!

Love,
Lion-san

  1. It looks like there are budding bakers for the election bake sale in Nov. Good job Lion-san! We went up the back of the mountain a couple of days ago and there are no wild blueberries this year! Very sad! But it looks like you are all having a good time!
