Holy Week!

Hi, Everyone!
Grandma says that the week between Palm Sunday and Easter is called Holy Week. This year, Holy Week was really sunny but it was cold out! When I got up early, I could see frost on the deck. So I stayed inside to wave my Palm Sunday palms at my favorite sunbeam. When I did go outside, look what I found! Something ate the tulips!Grandma thinks it got so cold one night that the moth balls weren’t smelly any more. At least the tulips got to bloom this year before they got munched up!

On Good Friday, we went out to Sodus. We went to the beach for the first time this year to watch the sun set. There was a big shelf carved in the sand at the beach! A big winter storm pushed strong waves into shore. Most years, the sand is protected from winter storms by ice that builds up near the shore. But this year it was so warm that the ice never formed. I hope the sand washes back in before summer!
On Saturday, Grandma and I took a walk to see the spring flowers at Sodus while Grandpa worked on the kitchen floor. The yellow primrose are in bloom in our planter, and the red trillium are in bloom in the woods. It feels like there are a lot of trees down in the woods this year. Maybe I just didn’t notice them last year once the leaves came out! Look at what the woodpecker has done to this tree! It’s hard to believe that one little red-headed bird made all those big holes!

On Easter Sunday, Grandma and Grandpa and I had dinner with Joe-san and Nancy-san and Moose-san. Moose-san showed me all of Nancy-san’s Easter decorations. The eggs are really fancy! I made friends with the spring fairy and the Easter duck family, but Moose-san got stuck in the spring fairy’s net! Joe-san made bruschetta as an appetizer, then we had grilled pork tenderloin and roasted asparagus and aranchini. For dessert we had grape pie and ginger ice cream. That’s the ice cream I helped Grandpa make, so I was very proud to help serve it.

Saturday night in Rochester is Sunday morning in Tokyo. The cherry blossoms are in bloom there, and Bill-kun and Karin-chan and their mommy and daddy went to the park to see them. Last week was also the beginning of the school year in Japan, so Karin-chan started going to Bill-kun’s school. Don’t they look nice in their school uniforms?

The cooler weather after our week of “summer” means that all the flowers outside are lasting longer before they fade. This Holy Week, it feels like spring was happening in slow motion!
Love,
Lion-san
