Hi, Everyone!
When I got back from my trip to the Canadian Rockies with Papa Dick-san and Grandma Sue-san and the Losee-sans, Grandma and Grandpa took me for a trip much closer to home. We went hiking at Alasa Farms, near Grandma and Grandpa’s cottage at Sodus. The Genesee Land Trust just got a conservation easement there. Grandma says that means the land will stay like it is now, no matter who owns it.A lady from the Land Trust took us on a walk by Second Creek. It is very pretty, and I didn’t know there was a waterfall hiding under the road! Then I made friends with some wildflowers and some not-so-wild flowers. It only took us 5 minutes to drive to the hike, and I didn’t have to worry about canceled airplane flights!
Thinking about flying reminded me of my bird friends, so I called a meeting of all Grandma’s rubber ducks. Grandma took a picture of all of us — it’s a big flock! The next day, I looked out the window and saw a bald eagle sitting in a tree right next door! The eagle sat there for about half an hour before it flew away. A few days later, we found a great big fish in the middle of our lawn! The fish was as big as me! I think the eagle must have dropped it there. The fish was really smelly, so Grandpa moved it out of the way before I had a chance to get a photo.
Last weekend, everybody on the East Coast was worried about Hurricane Irene. We could see where it was going on the computer. The very edge of the hurricane clouds arrived in Sodus just at sunset on Saturday evening, making a very pretty sunset. We could see waves in the spiral clouds from the storm winds. By Sunday, it was very windy! The waves on Lake Ontario were very big! It was even hard to watch them from the beach because the wind was blowing sand into everybody’s face. It’s a good thing we went back to Fairport in the morning, because a big tree blew down and closed our road in the afternoon. Our neighbors had to drive through the woods to get their car out!
After the hurricane, there was still a lot of excitement this week. Grandma decided to restain the house in Fairport. I couldn’t help stain, because I would get my paws too dirty. But I was a good helper putting up newspaper to keep the stain from going on windows. Then Grandpa decided it was time to repair the deck, so he started pulling up boards on the other end of the deck from where Grandma was staining. And the floor installer started putting in a new kitchen floor for Grandma and Grandpa, so he and his helpers were tearing up the old kitchen floor right inside from the deck. There was brushing and sawing and hammering going on at the same time. That was too much activity for a little lion, so I did my yoga exercises to calm things down!
Uncle Steven and Aunt Kara are coming to visit next weekend. I can hardly wait to see them!
Love,
Lion-san
