Hi, Everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve done a lot of good helping all week and I found out about a lot of holiday traditions. Traditions are things we do the same way, time after time, to stay connected to important parts of our lives. First, I helped Grandma string little lights on the apple trees in the front yard. Grandma says she does this every year around Thanksgiving. It started to rain before we got all the lights in place, but Grandma was able to finish a little later in the day. I thought I would get to see them light up the first night after we got them on the trees, but Grandma says I’ll have to wait until the traditional time to light them up, next week.
Then I helped my best bud Joe-san make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Grandma and Grandpa have Thanksgiving dinner with Joe-san and Nancy-san every year. I helped make the lime sauce for the shrimp appetizer. It was yummy! Then I helped Joe-san decide when the turkey was done. After the turkey was carved, I helped set out the serving platters so everybody could help themselves. For dessert, we had an apple pie that I helped make and Nancy-san’s traditional plum pudding. I couldn’t decide which dessert to have, so I had some of each. They were yummy, too!
After dinner, I helped clean up the turkey bones. Everybody got really tasty leftovers to eat another day. Then I helped dry the dishes. I was really tired after all that helping, so I took a nap with Grandpa. Grandma says taking naps after Thanksgiving dinner is another tradition.
Yesterday, I helped Steven and Kara plan their wedding. There are so many wedding traditions to think about! After a while I just couldn’t think any more and I had to take a nap. Kara says she feels that way too, sometimes.
Grandma says Thanksgiving is a traditional time to think about the good things in our lives. I am thankful for my family, and for all the people who take time to be friendly to me. I am a very lucky little lion to have so many adventures and best buddies!
Love,
Lion-san
