Hi, Everyone!
I’m going to Maine with Joe-san and Nancy-san! Grandma brought me over to their home yesterday to help them pack for the trip. Yesterday was a pretty easy day just looking around the garden and practicing looking for moose. But things were different today!
First Joe-san and Nancy-san and I went for a walk around their neighborhood. The flowers and plants grow very, very big here! Nancy-san showed me a sunflower. It came home with the neighbor’s daughter from kindergarten in a little paper cup. They planted it this spring and now it is very tall. I climbed all the way to the top and I managed to get back down without having to call the Fire Department to get rescued. Then I made friends with a hibiscus plant with huge pink flowers.
When we got back home Nancy-san needed some tomatoes to can so Joe -san and I picked tomatoes. Tomatoes taste really good, but the plants are smelly! When I turned around I saw a plant with big leaves that Nancy-san said was rhubarb. Then we looked at some of Nancy-san’s pumpkins. Did you know that Nancy-san makes desserts with both of those? I made friends with her bread and dessert helpers, the Baker-sans.
There were two big boxes of tomatoes that Nancy-san said she could can so we washed them, put them in boiling water to loosen the skins, peeled them, cut them and put them in jars and cooked them. It was hot work for somebody with a fur coat!!
Then Nancy-san decided to make peach bread since the house wouldn’t get any hotter than it was. And all that before noon!
After lunch Joe-san made some plum soup. I’ll bet that their stove can’t wait till they go to Maine!
Nancy-san invited me to exercise with her but I asked if I could take a nap instead. Joe-san said that we had a busy day and he would take care of making dinner tonight while Nancy-san and I relaxed.
Love,
Lion-san
