Blueberries and Tzatziki

Hi, Everyone!

Today was a really good day!  My best buds Joe-san and Nancy-san came out to Sodus to stay.  They brought blueberry syrup that Nancy-san made from blueberries they picked in Maine.  That’s the very same place I picked blueberries when I was there, looking for moose. Grandpa made waffles on the porch and I helped Grandma put some blueberry syrup on hers.  Yum, yum!

Then we went to the farm market to buy some food for dinner.  I helped shuck the corn on the cob, and I made friends with four quarts of peaches and some heirloom tomatoes.  Nancy-san showed me how to take a picture with her camera.  See the picture of Grandma I took?

Then Joe-san showed me the recipe for tzatziki and asked me to help him make it.  Tzatziki is a Greek cucumber dip.  First we had to drain the yoghurt and chop up the garlic really small.  Then I was a good helper and held the cucumber for Joe-san.  Nancy-san grew it in her garden and brought it along.  The recipe calls for fresh mint, so I helped again and cut some in our garden.  Then Joe-san peeled the cucumber and grated it.  We  had to salt it and squeeze it really hard to get all the extra water out of it!  When we stirred it all together, it was really yummy!  I helped clean up the dishes while we let it chill, then we served it with crostini as an appetizer before dinner.

After we had the tzatziki, Joe-san and I made a platter of heirloom tomatoes.  I showed Joe-san how we arranged slices for ratatouille last week.  Then I helped Grandpa grill a steak.   We had the corn on the cob that I helped shuck and more tzatziki on the tomatoes.  That was a good dinner!

Before dessert, we went to the beach to watch sunset.  It was fun to watch with my best bud Joe-san!  Then we came back and I helped Joe-san make a special dessert with poached peaches, vanilla ice cream and blueberry syrup.  It was yummy!  A day that begins and ends with blueberry syrup is a very good day!

Love,

Lion-san
