Ratatouille!

Hi, Everyone!

Grandma and Grandpa’s niece Bev is visiting us this weekend.  It is fun to get to know another member of the family!  We picked her up at the airport and came right out to Sodus.

The first morning, it was very windy and cloudy.  Grandma could see spray from big waves breaking on the lighthouse pier all the way from our dock, so we took Bev up to the beach to see them.  I’m glad we didn’t go by boat!  That would have been a very bumpy ride.   I wanted to be a good helper and sat in the lifeguard chair, but nobody was trying to swim.

Then we went to the lighthouse museum.  The original lighthouse for Sodus Point wasn’t built out in the water, like the current one.  It was built on the highest ground around, and that wasn’t right by the entrance to the bay.  So ships trying to get into the bay by sailing toward the lighthouse would go aground instead of reaching protected water.   I climbed all the way to the top of the lighthouse tower!  I got to see the light and the view from way up high.  When I got down, a nice lady gave me a certificate to prove I made it all the way to the top.

But the best part of the day was helping Grandma, Grandpa and Bev make ratatouille, just like Remy and Linguini!  Don’t the vegetables look yummy?  I helped Grandpa slice them up.  The mandolin slicer is VERY sharp, so I had to be careful where I put my paws.  Then I helped arrange the slices over the tomato and pepper sauce in the bottom of the pan.   Grandma baked the pans after dinner so we could have them tomorrow.  They smell really good!

While the ratatouille was baking, we took Bev back to the beach to see the sun set.  There were lots of clouds, but the sun peeked out just above the horizon.  It was very pretty.

Today, Grandma and I took Bev kayaking to our favorite spot, where the rose mallows and purple loosestrife are blooming in the wetlands.  I’m glad they are in bloom now so we could show them to Bev.   When we got home, Bev’s mother and father came to join us for the rest of the weekend.  Bev’s father is Grandma’s brother.

Tonight we’re going to have shrimp and corn on the cob and ratatouille and peaches with dark chocolate flavored balsamic vinegar for dinner.  YUM!  Even Remy and Linguini would be impressed!

Love,
Lion-san
